Funny that Russia is so far behind in "pivoting" to Asia, seeing as it's already mostly in Asia. By "behind" I mean behind the US, that in 2012, under Obama and Clinton, publicly began a "pivot" to Asia. However, it began earlier than that. Clinton advocated for something much like the "pivot" in 2011 in the article "America's Pacific Century". In 2009, "Clinton fought hard to get the China file and lead the comprehensive dialog with China," according to wiki, (ousting Joe Biden) and it is perhaps unsurprising that some of the large donors to the Clinton Foundation are said to be from China.
Russia may well appear to be supporting Trump for the simple reason that the Clintons have had an apparently mutually beneficial arrangement with China since 1994, when Bill granted "Most Favored Nation" trade status to the Chinese, despite the ongoing widespread human rights violations there. Also, remember "Loral-gate", where at around the same time (1996) that the CEO of Loral Space gave 1.5 million dollars to Bill and other Democrats, that Loral Space obtained licenses to export sensitive US missile technology to China?
I don't think that "containing" China is part of the Clinton game plan, but I am confident that profiting from improved relations with China is.
