Cover versions of 60s classics

First, an iconic tune, as the appalling cliche has it:

And now for Blitzkreig Pop's heart-felt tribute to the above, which features the entirely memorable line: "If you go to San Francisco...you will meet a lot of weirdos there."

In short, everything you might hope for from a record first performed at the Speedway Hotel, Middlesbrough.

"There are three sorts of conspiracy: by the people who complain, by the people who write, by the people who take action. There is nothing to fear from the first group, the two others are more dangerous; but the police have to be part of all three,"

Led Zeppelin used to add Scott McKenzie's song to their on-stage medleys, changing the lyrics: "You're gonna meet a lot of devil people there" instead of "gentle people."

For soon-to-be Prez Hillary.

"I don't need your war machines
I don't need your war machines
I don't need your war machines
I don't need your war-war-war-war...."

Speaking of Jools Holland I love this George Harrison cover with Sam Brown:

"The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it." Karl Marx

"He would, wouldn't he?" Mandy Rice-Davies. When asked in court whether she knew that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her.

“I think it would be a good idea” Ghandi, when asked about Western Civilisation.

Weirdos? Yeah, we still got them.

Devils? Got them, too.

What we don't have anymore are great rocknroll bands putting The City on the map.

The dot-com invasion in the late 90's and techie-influx this decade has made the town too expensive to attract new generations of musicians and artists, alas.

Here's two great San Francisco bands from another era covering the Rolling Stones, and Dylan.

With the Black Flag version of Louie Louie up here, I couldn't resist putting the Toots & The Maytals version up.

Those who must silence others for speaking the truth cannot be innocent.
