Today, March 30, 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan outside the Washington Hilton Hotel. Despite a new book out, Rawhide Down (which supports the official version of events) and press coverage today on NPR and other news sources about the anniversary, there was no one on the site at 2:27 pm, the time of the shooting, except COPA (Coalition on Political Assassinations). A supporter was kind enough to come out in the inclement weather and shoot a digital video of the presentation I give annually at the site as part of my birthday celebration, which I call the "Hinckley Hilton Tour" and which includes the "Bushy Knoll" above the retaining wall from where the shot that hit Reagan came. None of Hinckley's bullets hit Regan, similar to the ballistics in the Robert Kennedy case as well. The lecture will be made available soon at the COPA You Tube page and perhaps linked to on Vimeo. There are many parallels to earlier assassinations.

"And We Are All Mortal...."

Commemoration of JFK's call for and end to the Cold War, the nuclear arms race and world peace. Commencement speech given at American University. JFK had flown in to San Francisco from an international summit, met Ted Sorensen, wrote the speech on the plane back to DC. The plane got in early morning, JFK soaked his sore back, dressed and spoke at AU at 10:00 am. Later in the day he was disappointed by the lack of response from the USSR. He began work on his next address, regarding the moral issue of racism and civil rights, supporting change in that area as well. Later, he heard that TASS, the Soviet news agency had printed the entire text of the AU speech, a first. It was probably the last nail in his coffin for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. JFK read the civil rights speech later that evening and it was heard in Mississippi by the head of the NAACP, who called his wife and told her to keep the children up until he got home so he could talk about the implications with them. On his way to the door, Medgar Evers was shot in the back and killed, and the assassin was not jailed until decades later, as the result of cold cases from that era that are being reopened by the Justice Department. We will meet at the memorial plaque, read from the speech and then have lunch after the event.

Normally, unless there is a large break in the cases, we hold regional conferences on the anniversaries of the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, and Robert F. Kennedy in Los Angeles on the 5-year anniversaries. The next one will be 2013, also the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination. We will have a major conference in November in Dallas that year as well.

Annual Regional Meeting of COPA
48th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy
We will hold our 17th annual regional meeting in Dallas this year. Speakers and movies will be hosted from Friday night, November 18 to Sunday afternoon, November 20, presenting the latest forensic, medical, ballistic, historical and documented research into the various political assassinations of the past and present. We will probably make our usual road trip to Poague Library at Baylor University in Waco, Texas after the conference ends to see the expanding JFK assassination collection curated by our host Ben Rogers. We will also hold our annual Moment of Silence event at 12:30 pm on November 22 at the Grassy Knoll in Dealey Plaza. Discount rates are being arranged at the Hotel Lawrence again this year and will be announced.

46th anniversary of the assassination of Malcolm X
Unfortunately, a planned broadcast of interviews on WPFW could not be arranged. We worked with Dowoti Desir, former director of the Dr. Betty Shabazz & Malcolm X Memorial and Educational Center, located at the site of the murder, the old Audubon Ballroom to bring the voices of researchers like Dr. Manning Marable, Wynne Alexander, and eyewitness Roland Sheppard to a larger audience. COPA provided a photograph of a suspected gunman in the shooting of Malcolm X, still alive in New Jersey and never charged, to eyewitness Sheppard, who confirmed it was the man he saw shoot Malcolm with a shotgun that day, and later ran into at the NYPD police station, apparently working a desk. The 50th anniversary of Malcolm X's murder will be in 2015. We hope to hold an event in New York that year, and possibly in the years between. Footage of past events is available at our YouTube page.
COPA has worked for years now to present the best scientific and historical evidence emerging over time, and to release the classified files, regarding JFK's and Martin Luther King's life and death and to identify the real assassins. We have kept our conference charges low and tried to serve the public need for information. We have a very small number of regular donors who keep our operation going, diminishing over the years. I have also financed the organizational costs out of pocket over time, but I am no longer able to do so. One donor gives us $40 a month, others send $50 a year, and a few donors give us a range between $100 and $1,500 a year. We rely on your support. We are glad to provide a DVD set from the last conference we held in exchange for any donation above $50. The donations are NOT tax deductible.
