Remember when John Mcloy? says in the film "13 days", "now we can run the table"? He then rattled off the names of numerous countries we could take over. This comment came after the missile crisis was settled without war and JFK had left the room. Think about the fact that N. Krushchev said his goal was to prevent the S.U. from becoming an economy based on consumerism. Of course he took that to an extreme but we have taken it to the other extreme so that we have to take over the world in order to make it safe for American style consumerism.
