How the Navy Seals Almost Ruined My Trip
#1
I was traveling in Israel and the West Bank in January. We spent our first night in Haifa at the Leonardo Hotel overlooking the Mediterranean. I walked barefoot out on the veranda enjoy the view. My foot brushed something; it tinkled. I looked down to see that I had some walked through a minefield of broken glass. There was even a nasty little chunk nestled under the ball of my foot. No damage.

I complained down at the front desk. The concierge rolled her eyes. She said, "Two days ago, the Navy Seals were here. The place was a mess. Glass everywhere."

The following article brought this memory back. It is the story of an investigative report from a San Diego weekly, The East County Magazine, about a young special forces who was reported as dead who posted on his Facebook page that he had been in Syria.

Quote:January 17, 2012 (San Diego) On January 2, a soldier in San Diego claiming links to Special Forces posted on his Facebook page that he was deploying to Syria. This tantalizing piece of information startled readers, leading many to ask: does our country have troops in Syria and if so, why?
