This article is interesting, because it continues the necessary focus on the earlier excllent Gareth Porter article on Generals "bullying" Obama on Iraq (personally I have my doubts if this is real
bullying or is it psy ops ie collusion to provide cover for shafting the base one more time)
It is interesting that Parry makes more reference to Carter than to the man who facilitated the White House filming of Seven Days in May, JFK.
Also interesting is the lack of reference to clearly the most direct parallel to the Obama "Vs?" Patraeus conflice, namely Kennedy V. Gen Walker. Oh and that "Ultimate Cold Warrior", as Guru Chomsky labels JFK endlessly? He fired Walker on the spot. Sent him packing to Dallas where he later had a rather interesting "contact" with a Lee Harvey Oswald or 2.
Good article but with curious errors of omission.

Thanks for this Nathaniel. I have always found Parry to be essential reading ever since he broke Iran-Contra.
His reference to "Seven Days in May" is indeed intriguing. What I find disjointed about it is the supposition that Obama is the clean clear-eyed boy trying to do the best and honest thing for his nation. To me that doesn't jive. I see Obama a captive to the bloody awful Brzezinski Brigade.
But maybe I'm wrong and he's right?
Edit = PS, Parry suggests that Wall Street executives are pissed off at Obama for restraining their compensation packages, but the last time I checked with the White House website, this was an "advisory" and had no force in law. And under those less than imposing conditions WS Execs will just go ahead and award themselves whatever they damn well please. Right. After all they haven't felt obliged to inhibit their geed in the past have they...

I think this actually presents a realistic view of the dilemma Obama faces.
It's not just Olbermann and Maddow who are calling on him to keep his campaign promises, all the liberal blogs and orgs email us daily to call the WH and demand he stay true. Keeping Gates was a huge mistake and will be one he will come to regret, I believe. Republican's reaction is nothing new. They did not hate Clinton because he was a womanizer they hated him because he was not one of them. Same with Obama. Republicans simply hate. And they call themselves "Christians". Sickening.
