DARPA wants to grow and refine algae, all the way up to forward bases.
The goal is $1 per gallon biodiesel, not achieved, yet.
But with closed-system algae growth in containers, already, a containerized refinery can't be far off. Thing is, closed growth systems need a CO2 source, so when Mr.Obamney wants to get a real energy policy, we'll all find out, how any O2-fired gas plant or Fischer-Tropsch furnace should pipe or scrub and compress CO2, to grow algae and make methanol, to be blended into biodiesel, right onsite.
