New [and hopefully only temporary] look of the Forum
#51
Whoa, I was frightened DPF had gone away for good. Well done getting it back up and running. Who stole the domain? What happened exactly? If someone can point me to the thread with the low-down, I'd be grateful.

The "new look" isn't to my liking, it's a little too floaty and bubbly. On the plus side, I am using it successfully with javascript turned off. And it isn't asking me to translate books for google via Captcha, which is also a plus. imho less is more, the closer to plain text a forum gets, the better I like it!

Welcome back DPF, I was sorry to see you away from the internet.

Hi Helen - delighted you've found us. I look forward to more typically insightful contributions.

Welcome back Helen. Good to see you here again.

The look and feel of the forum is different, partly because we bought the latest version software in order to have the support for it, and partly because it is somewhat of a slow arduous task to get both aspects (feel and look) back to a level everyone is fairly comfortable with (although I have found it is growing on me).

As for the rest look HERE if you haven't already.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

Thank you, David! Delighted to see almost everyone is here!

The episode sounds very trying. I did manage to log on once when the domain was "in enemy hands" so to speak, and promptly changed my password. Kirsten posted something in the Lounge to the effect of "WTF is going on!?!" and I suggested she and others change their passwords weekly while the site was under attack, as I understood it then to be. I hope no one locked themselves out because of my bad advice.

Helen and all - for the time being you may find that the site search engine isn't working properly. However an appropriate google search - eg +"deep politics forum" +"user name" +keyword - often does the trick.

Another trick that's working for me. If google finds a url, but when you click on the link it doesn't work, check to see if the url is deeppoliticsforum.net/

If so, replace the .net with .com, hit the link again, and, in my experience to date, Bob is well and truly your Uncle. Pirate

Your program seems to cycle the 'new posts' at noon GMT or EST, so if one looks shortly after that, one finds only a very few posts.....a tad annoying and I wonder if there is a magic setting that can always keep the 'most recent 25 or 50 or from last 24 or 48 hrs? I know...picky, picky, picky....:alberteinstein:

The 'Today's Posts' and 'Recent Posts' thing is bugging me and others too.
So, short answer - There probably is a fairly simple tweek. In fact I'm sure it is possible to do exactly as you suggest. Problem is I'm still submerged in other techie stuff and effective prioritising was never my strong point.

I WILL get around to it. Promise.

It is my humble opinion, if it is technically possible, to have more posts list as 'new posts' than currently do.....I'd not mind a page or two full of the more recent posts, for example....even three. Especially without the search engine working now, to find a thread you were watching or posting on or about to post on when it was there yesterday (and active), but now GONE to its nestling place somewhere angryfire is a little annoying.
