As far as Putin is concerned, Russia has unfortunately joined the countries criminalizing free speech. Last year they passed laws against Holocaust revisionism. No matter what you think about that subject, revisionists have the right to express their views without being put in jail or fined or banned. Most of the "democratic" countries of continental Europe, along with Canada and Australia and New Zealand, have the same laws.

Can you think of any other controversial historical subject where people can be jailed for not agreeing with the official story? Are any of us jailed or fined for not accepting the Warren Commission or the 9/11 story, Pearl Harbor or 7/7? People have actually spent time in prison for making a speech, writing a book or article, or running a website - in the West! Not in Iran, China, North Korea or Saudi Arabia. It's like the Catholic Church enforcing orthodoxy through the Spanish Inquisition. No group should have their official history protected by law. And the truth certainly doesn't require it.
