The official report states, Lt. Georges E. "Frenchy" LeBlanc, a VX-5 pilot, ejected safely when his engine flamed out at an altitude of 11,000 feet over the Dallas, TX, area while LeBlanc, Lt. Paul Weitz, and Lt. Charles H . Brown were in flight from NOTS to Cherry Point, NC. He attempted two air starts and ejected at 4,000 feet.
But, I find no other information on him, can anyone else?
Is this passage saying what I think it's saying? That LeBlanc "attempted" not one, but "two" flights, and both planes that same day crashed? the first he ejected out of an altitude of 11,000 feet, and the second at 4,000 feet with at least one of the planes he ejected out of was [over the Dallas Texas suburb]? Wouldn't a plane at that altitude been pulverized into pieces sending parts of the plane miles away from the crash sight? Which would have certainly made news in Dallas would it not? Or, did the plane go down in the golf of Mexico unable to bet a landing on the USS Essex, and so, not wanting to take that chance, he ejected just a mile or so from the carrier? Get the truth!
