Peter Lemkin Wrote:Little known, but true....Vaclav Havel, past President of the Czech Republic [who was a playwright before becoming first President after Communism] asked Zappa to become the Czech Minister of Culture. I'm really not sure if Zappa had any Czech heritage, but Havel was very serious and they discussed it - and Havel could have granted him citizenship to make it OK. After thinking about it, Zappa declined with thanks. I know about this because I live here in the Czech Republic now. Many posters of Zappa and Havel are on people's walls here.
There are quite a few good interviews with Zappa in his last years. Sad he died so young of cancer. Yes, he was intelligent and moral......
Didn't the US government (Reagan and Baker) intervene to make sure Zappa wasn't appointed Minister of Culture?
