Book suggestions and warnings (about propaganda like Reclaiming History) are needed.
Thx.
I nominate two of the greatest pieces of detective work ever committed to print.
The first cited is essential to understanding the deep political tradition of the US; and reminds us - and, boy, do we need reminding - that there was a very different interpretive model flowing within the popular imagination in 1963. (So much so, in fact, that Allen Dulles sought to introduce works to his commissioner colleagues designed to negate it.)
The second shows how well-tried and -tested are some of the techniques of framing and fabrication (and torture); and reminds us that Douglass had at least one precursor in the Catholic tradition in opposition to state terrorism.

Thanks very much Paul. I added them to the list. I never even heard of the Gunpowder Plot so I'm intrigued. I had to look it up to see what it was about.
