The UK has a first past the post system but in Australia parties who do not win get to pass their votes to another party of their choosing. It can create some really bad bed fellows. The general agreement of parties is not to give preferences to the extreme right and racists. But Wikileaks gave preferences to the local neo nazis, gun lobbyists, male rightists....above some of their good political friends. Huge mistake. I just don't know what they were thinking or who was directing their thinking. They have completely alienated their natural support base.
If you dont like the preferences of your party voters still have the choice of choosing their own but this means filling in 110 boxes.
