I have heard this before, too, Drew. In all honesty, there is something quite wrong with this story. All Carcano rifles, be they long rifles, short rifles or carbines, share identical actions. If a gunsmith had mounted any number of scopes on the carbines, the scope would likely go on the same location on the short rifles.
