Its much worse than that.
As David Phillips stated, when it was all said and done, there would be no proof that Oswald ever visited the Russian embassy.
As the Lopez Report showed in abundance, by way of a chart, there was also no proof that Oswald called the embassy.
There are no pictures, and the tapes depict a guy speaking broken Russian. Oswald spoke good Russian by the time he left the USA for Russia according to Rosaleen Quinn.
This makes the lie by Phillips even more incriminating.
Now, the pictures produced by the Cuban consulate and the description by Duran is of a man who was short and blonde. This matches what Contreras said about the guy who visited him at National University. And at the AARC conference last year, Dan Hardway said that they had more witnesses besides Contreras at the college, but the CIA prevented he and Eddie from getting to them.
Again, this is seven weeks before the assassination. Now couple that with the Odio episode--because as I have demonstrated elsewhere--it is very hard to believe that Oswald could be in both places. The Odio incident tries to incriminate Oswald, again, about seven weeks before the crime.
See, this is the kind of stuff Sprague and Tanenbaum were closing in on. Warp speed beyond the WC. Sprague was hot on the trail of the Mexico City transcripts. He wanted to know why there was a transcript the Tarasoffs did not translate. So he confiscated their typewriter for comparison purposes. What makes that so interesting is that we later learned that it was Phillips who transported the transcripts to Langley under an assumed name. Did he add a phony transcript?
As Jim Garrison said way back when, in figurative language, Mexico City is the key to the crime.
