Even if you could trace C2766 back to the Terni plant, and establish what length of stock was made for it, unless you could find the C2766 serial number on the stock, there is no guarantee it would be the original stock.
When the Carcanos were sold as surplus, they had seen some very rough environmental conditions and bad storage by the time they were being prepared for shipment to Europe and America. Many rifles had parts missing and many had broken or cracked stocks. Part of this stemmed from the use of inferior hardwoods, toward the final era of Carcano manufacture, in the production of rifle stocks. Many of the Carcanos shipped to America were composites of parts from other rifles.
I believe this also explains the bottom mount sling ring seen on the forestock of the rifle in David Joseph's photo he posted.

Mr. HILL. The right rear portion of his head was missing. It was lying in the rear seat of the car. His brain was exposed. There was blood and bits of brain all over the entire rear portion of the car. Mrs. Kennedy was completely covered with blood. There was so much blood you could not tell if there had been any other wound or not, except for the one large gaping wound in the right rear portion of the head.
