I've been pondering the strangeness of the sudden UK's decision to cancel its planned air campaign in Syria back in 2013 - followed by the US, and Obama's demand to the French to stand down. I smelled a rat at the time and wondered if Russia had made it's willingness to defend Assad known? All very circumstantial I know, but I wonder if Russia and Syria had a secret defence pact that Syria triggered as the minutes ticked down for British and French aircraft to begin bombing Damascus, and the Russians told Washington if this campaign went ahead they would be forced to intervene as a consequence?
Agree David. Russia and Syria have long been allies going back many decades. I also feel that Obama is also getting sections of his military to stand down too. The more rabid Strangelovian sections. I think he has had to that several times. That's when some military are not taking it on themselves (a la Minot AFB)
