The Rolling Stones using Hell's Angels as security and that 'security' killing some one in the audience was a real downer too. It was their concert in 1970 so right after the 60's if I recall and a good psychological point to drawn down the curtain on that time where they tried peace and it didn't work. The Stones were very different with their London School of Economics background (vs the more creative Liverpool Art College for the Beatles) and their harder edge and satanic imagery a la 'Goats Head Soup' and other songs.

Altamont, right. Hell's Angel working "security" for the Stones stabbed a man to death. And it was all caught on film and included in the movie "Gimme Shelter." I think it certainly helped drive a stake through the heart of the sixties. It was the antithesis of peace-and-love Woodstock. I doubt that it was orchestrated however, as an Operation Chaos kind of operation, unlike--as I suspect--Manson was.

Fascinating point you make about the Rolling Stones! Jagger was a product of the London School of Economics and a crass ruthless businessman first and foremost. When the true artistic spirit of the band, Brian Jones, became too much of a bother he was done away with. The satanic elements went way beyond imagery.
