Thanks Peter and Jack for your personal impressions. I'm not overlooking the fact that so many people remember Prouty with so much warmth. I can see and hear that he was a charming individual. I appreciate that he possesses a natural bluntness and authority when he speaks about these dark matters. It's very seductive.
I suppose, at best, that you could view Freedom - which I consider to be completely disreputable - as being one of the few venues Prouty felt he could turn to. I suppose. And maybe the biography is bogus. Maybe.
