So, it wasn't the bandwidth.
Sad that he sees Gary's very reasonable comments as abusive. I also thought Tom Scully was a decent person and a good researcher over there.
I hope people remember to download the good threads unless they all go the way of Peter's deleted posts... there is some good stuff there...

Disagreement in John's eyes is betrayal. That was always the whole problem with his style of moderation.
Despite our past disagreements, this is a real pity. I hope he preserves - or allows others to preserve - the JFK folder online.

There are various freeware programs available (for both PC and Mac) that allow the user to download an entire website to their computer. Anyone interested should probably get onto it before John Simkin pulls the plug entirely.

I haven't followed more than the little that was posted here on this and one other thread the 'goings on' lately at the EF. Yes, there is much good information there and a few outstanding researchers and followers of the JFK Assassination who post [or have posted there in the past] -along with some flotsam and jetsam - and a hefty dash of disinfo types.
I hope John Simkin is not so anti-historical to delete it, even if he is throwing in the towel. Again, I don't know what the issues at hand were in any detail, but it seems he can't take criticism - nor would he allow the moderators to moderate [or come to some solution with him in private and get a consensus on the Forum publicly]. Someone pointed out how John seemed to change with the death of his wife - and having lost many dear ones, on that I can sympathize and, in part, understand how it can make one 'brittle'. Not an excuse, but perhaps part of the explanation. I should be angry at John, as he pushed the button making all of my 8,500 posts disappear, after Walker had made the ones against him disappear while John was attending his wife's funeral. I am, and that he refused to discuss re-instating me and my posts. [once decided upon in the affirmative, but for reasons unknown never made to happen]. I just hope that more damage to history is not attempted or carried out. It would be antithetical to the stated purposes of the Forum. There is nothing 'educational' about making people's thoughts, musings, research, sweat and tears on history vanish. If John can't 'hack it' why doesn't he let someone else take that part over and spin it off onto another website....likely one word would answer that: ego.
Well, a lot of people are going to want and need a new Forum or forums.....perhaps some better ones will drift this-a-way.....
Is he closing down the all but defunct other parts of 'Controversial issues in History'?

It is sad that it devolved to this. When I first joined in 04 it was the first of such forums I had ever been on. I had been in and around the JFK reaearch community all of my adult life and had namy friends there but this was an opportunity to have shared ideas, research, book reviews, chats with the authors, etc. It began as a great exercise. I am greateful for all the friends I made there. Especially so for my co owners and co founders here. For all of that I thank John Simkin and the vision he had. From which we all benefited, regardless of the problems that later ensued.

Deep political analyses often begin with questioning of the timing of an event such as this.
If we take this tack when considering the alleged demise of EF, we immediately note that its JFK forum is disappearing during the 50th anniversary year.
One wonders if Simkin has considered how his execution of EF will be played to the enemy's advantage as media attention on JFK assassination-related matters intensify.
This being noted, we must examine the EF's departure from the battlefield in a broader context than that provided by the 50th.

Dunne always was, IMHO, one of the best minds on the EF. I'm not sure that is his real name, but whoever he is usually thinks and speaks eloquently. First of all I have no reason to believe that this is not his name. And I do not agree that his words have been ignored. Not everyone who reads a forum posts.
From what I read over the nine years I was there I saw many posts proclaiming that he was one of the most respected members of that forum.
CD I questioned the timing as well. But who knows what may be going on in his private life. As we approach the 50th anniversary it is very sad that there is one less voice
to counter what I am certain will be much mumbling in their helmuts by the many voices of the untruth.
