Great list Tracy!
Here is alink to Bertrand Russel's 16 questions I just had up.

Feel free to add.
"The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it." Karl Marx

"He would, wouldn't he?" Mandy Rice-Davies. When asked in court whether she knew that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her.

“I think it would be a good idea” Ghandi, when asked about Western Civilisation.

Tracy Riddle Wrote:My list of the most essential JFK assassination literature, including some important articles...

I am, of course, pleased and flattered to see my book included on this list.

I would add Addendum B by Raymond Marcus. In addition to his own material, it includes a few of the items on the list (the Starnes article, and "The Truth Is Too Terrible"). I think Ray is one of the under-appreciated critics of this case.

Some of the other articles on the list, and similar stuff, may be found on the web site I cobbled together earlier this year. (The site looks best through Safari on a Mac, and Mozilla/Firefox on a PC.)

Thanks, John. I wanted to include something by Penn Jones, but his books are very hard to find and I've only read a PDF of Forgive My Grief Vol. 2. Overall, his work has a lot of rumor-mongering and speculation, and some of his mysterious deaths are probably not mysterious. 'Citizen's arrest: The dissent of Penn Jones, Jr' by H.C. Nash might be a good one, but I've never read it.

Tracy,

This is a great list; I think you've got most everything of worth here.

I was just curious, though, why you include Doug Horne's volumes but do not list Best Evidence or the first two volumes edited by Fetzer. I take it that the items you include are meant to be representative of important contributions -- correct or incorrect as they may be -- to the discussion, whatever opinions one may hold about them or their authors. The articles by Aguilar, Mantik, and Dr. Livingston (along with Wood's chronology and Palamara's contributions) in the Fetzer volumes are important in my view.

Al

(P.S., in this vein you could also include Roger Feinman's Between the Signal and the Noise, since it takes aim at BE, though I personally feel he spends way too much time trying to prove Lifton made it all up at the last minute; when he gets down to the actual questions he raises concerning BE's conclusions, he's much better.)

Donald Gibson's two books are the best I've ever read on the JFK case.

He points a very distinct finger at who was behind this murder, and it wasn't Lyndon Johnson, or the CIA, or Texas oil, or the Mob, or anti-Castro Cubans, or "the government." Responsible: the eastern, blue-blood establishment, activating assets throughout the country and the world to get the job done, with the Morgan-Rockefeller nexus at the center of it all.

He gives us the who - at least partially. Which allows us to move to the "why." Gibson provides movement in this case, where there is so much (sponsored) muddling.

I found this priceless thread.

Now "we" can post this into the Fake-Left to SHOW them how the Chomskyfication was not always there, but was an adaptation, a protective scab to ensure that the left, the group who SHOULD HAVE been most interested and who represented the dangerous source of criticism-- as witnessed in the hilarious and essential Joe Alsop, LBJ, Carr recording available at Miller Center.

I would lead -- with the Staughton Lynd article because he has name brand recognition on the left.

IMPORTANT PART: WHY SHOULD WE GIVE A RAT'S GEOPOLITICAL ASS ABOUT WHAT "THE LEFT" THINKS RE JFK? GIVEN THAT THEY ARE REALLY FAUX LEFT AND ARE COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT THE CASE.

1) First of all its the Publishable left who believe the bs. I have found that a huge amount of the real left no longer are swallowing the Chomsky.
2) MOST IMP. its not about what the left thinks> when some so called "leftist" argues that JFK was not getting out of Vietnam , they always do so loudly. They are PERCIEVED AS "the progressive" with whomever they are fighting with at thinksgiving supper from Long Island to INCA's Long Beach> hence, the sheering of the policy implications that these car-washed McLeftists scream at everyone else--e.g. the mantra that JFK was "JACW" just another cold warrior is heard by the whole group and it is taken as authoritative because it comes from the mouth of someone who is SEEN AS "progressive" = NET RESULT that possible new interest is smothered with the idea that "oh well if there were no policy or historical implications to the JFK assassination, its just another death, why is that death more important than a dead Vietnamese kid, now time for a Pacifica funding break..."

So left-gatekeeping is not about the left at all. It is a scorched earth policy on the entire spectrum. Anyone who is at war needs to act on that. PRE WARREN COMMISSION REACTIONS BY THE LEFT.. before the Great Naoming...

I've not read his book The Kennedy Assassination Cover Up, but Battling Wall Street and the piece on the Warren Commission reprinted in The Assassinations are definitely seminal.

Nathaniel, I'm sure you've seen this article by Douglas Valentine, but maybe others have missed it:

Daniel Ellsberg working with Ed Lansdale. Who wudda thunk it?
