Fukushima - 1.3 million Americans set to die thanks to Obama cover-up of radiation plume
#1
Fukushima, weapon of mass destruction?

I love how governments write off the mass deaths of their own citizens in order to maintain the status quo.

The following is from the Slog:

Quote:

FUKUSHIMA & MANNING: Why the two are part of the same syndrome

Quite a day for Obama: how he double-crossed the American people, and nailed a good citizen to the cross

[Image: obamahope.jpg?w=500]Yesterday's news about the upgrading' of the fall-out from the Japanese Fukushima reactor was rapidly followed by the receipt of a timely dossier by The Slog. There's nothing secret about it, you can read it in full here and while I'm not familiar with the site, 95% of it is based on FOI demanded information in the US, with Xeroxed extracts to prove the points being made.
The thrust of the piece is that, from the first day onwards, the US government has massively underplayed the the scale of the disaster and its effect in particular on North America itself. In the text of stenography, there are repeated references to "play down the level of fallout", "our line should be there's no cause for alarm" and so forth.
But the bottom line is that somewhere in the region of 1.3 millionAmericans will be dead as a direct cause of Fukushima by 2030.
There is also clear evidence I would say, irrefutable evidence that the Japanese have run out of ideas as to how the meltdown process might be stopped, and that in complete contrast to official announcements, very little at Fukushima is "contained". The likelihood is further melting down is still in progress. This was partly supported by yesterday's "update", in which the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) said a leak of at least 300 tonnes of the highly radioactive water was discovered on Monday. But the game is still on to toe the "no cause for alarm" line: officials described the leak as a level-one incident the lowest level on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (Ines). Based on the dossier linked to above, I would suggest that this is almost certainly bollocks. (Apart from anything else, the first release said the level of danger had been raised: so how can it still be at "the lowest level"? Webs, weave, deceive etc etc).
The BBC is as expected completely onside with the "nothing to see here" approach: its Environment page online claims, "the scale of the overall radiation leakage at Fukushima must be kept in some perspective. According to Dr Ken Buesseler, a senior scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, the total amount of the radioactive element caesium produced since the disaster began at Fukushima is roughly equal to the amount that has been emitted at Windscale/Sellafield since operations began there 60 years ago."
A complete weasel: caesium is just one element in a radioactive plume disaster. Try this extract from the dossier, March 13th 2011:[Image: nuke1.png?w=500&h=55]
And this, from later the same year:
Or this in the light of the BBC's claim that "nobody has yet been reported as dead" as a result of the disaster:
This bit, however, was the part that truly turned even my iron-clad cynical stomach as an example of the US élite's "prorities": in this first extract, it's clear that Obama knows the truth, and is keen to cover it up….as are the bureaucrats:
And in this latter fragment, the President's main concern seems to be his popularity in two western States:
[Image: nuke5crop.png?w=500&h=381]One is, of course, left wondering what Mr Wiggins had yet to figure out…explaining away all the dead folks?

My bolding. Please also note I've deleted the Bradley manning part of this story - it can be read at the above link.

Fukushima has been looming over all of us for 2.5 years now, and the media/government have been doing their best to ignore it. It may end up poisoning the entire Pacific region before it's done.

TEPCO, the Japanese Govt. are NOT releasing the necessary information - and most other governments are trying to downplay the situation. The full extent of the damage and radiation levels known are NOT being told to the World public. We do know some things, though, and they are NOT good. We know that several of the reactors breached their containment vessels and suffered at least partial melt-downs [either of these would have released massive amounts of radiation - and will continue to until the estimated 40-45 years it will take to entomb the reactors. The cooling system was destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami and has only partly been repaired on some of the reactors. Reactors keep overheating and highly radioactive water keeps getting into the atmosphere, ground, groundwater and ocean. [i.e. they don't even begin to have the reactors under control]. The situation certainly is degrading - not stabilizing. As worker who work near the reactors are only allowed 10-20 minutes at a time - in containment suits with lead foil in them, the radiation leakage near the reactors must be very high - which given the damage is not a surprise, at all. Shortly after one of the reactor vessels exploded, I remember a radiation expert estimating that Fukashima had already released many times more radiation than Chernobyl. To be fair, the type of radiation released, and its distribution both locally and Worldwide will determine the end result in additional deaths. Radiation, unless VERY intense and VERY close by, doesn't cause immediate deaths, but adds to the risk of cancers and birth defects and some other biological and environmental consequences. The workers at the plant and those that live in the local area are most at risk of shorter lives. I'll try to find an authoritative prediction of additional person-years lost due to the excess radiation, worldwide.

According to one scientist, reported in a Slog update on this story, water is leaking out all over the place and is now unstoppable, and the China syndrome is being played out in real life."

What most annoys me about this cover-up, is that it has been covered up.

Governments routinely lie to their people, arguing, I suppose, that they stop panic - and/or avoid corporate responsibility. But anyone who cared to follow the Fukushima story knew what was happening anyway.

[Image: fukushima.jpg?resize=300%2C167]Dr. Helen Caldicott has devoted the past 40 years on educating the global community about the inherent risks and danger of nuclear energy and weapons. She is a physician, speaker, educator and the author of several books regarding nuclear energy. Dr. Caldicott shared with us what is happening at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and explained how the meltdown of the 3 reactors affected the atmosphere, the ocean and our food supply. She shared some of the reasons why the Japanese government is not fully disclosing this disaster's effects on human health. Dr. Caldicott is concerned about Building 4 at Fukushima and the catastrophic implications that would follow if this building were to melt down.
Dr. Caldicott talked about the number of diseases that are caused from radiation exposure. She explained how children are 10-20 times more sensitive to radiation, how girls are twice as sensitive as boys, and that fetuses are 1000 times more sensitive to radiation. She walked us through the process of how radiation in our food chain is passed from mother to fetus and how through mitosis of cells can turn into cancer. She reported on the number of diseases that can occur from radiation exposure including, cancer, diabetes, leukemia, hypothyroidism, thyroid cancer, to name a few.
Dr. Caldicott created a symposium in New York early this year in March where she invited some of the leading experts in the world to discuss these issues. You can download this symposium from her website. She invited major news sources, including CNN, ABC and others to attend and cover this conference. Unfortunately, only a few of the minor news sources covered the symposium.
In the last 25 years, there have been a million deaths due to the Chernobyl incident and the Fukushima melt down was 2-3 times stronger than Chernobyl. Her message is one of dire urgency for humanity to demand that the numerous nuclear power plants around the world be closed down before there is a world-wide disaster of which there will be grave implications.
Her passionate message leaves us with a sense of responsibility to continue spreading the word regarding the insanity of the nuclear energy and nuclear weapons issue. She leaves it in our hands! What will you do? Click on the link to listen to her important message:

Radiation plume after Japanese earthquake. Iodine-131 cloud reached France.

Posted on September 21, 2013
A 5.8 earthquake rocked Japan just south of the Fukushima area shortly after midnight on September 20 (Japan time). Apparently radiation measurements in this area have temporarily spiked.
I would like to introduce that we have observed a high radiation dose in the radioactivity measurement data of Fukushima prefecture around. Location was observed particularly high number is Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture and Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. You can think of it either because it is too high too, like a lump of radioactivity or are coming, instrument of what has failed the number of Iwaki. Near the Koriyama has also observed a high number, here was observed a number close to 10 times the peacetime temporarily… Cause radiation dose has been soaring in many parts of Fukushima, it is likely that it is off the coast of Fukushima intensity 5 upper that occurred the other day. It has also strengthened the monitoring of such Fukuichi live camera just to be sure, but such a big accident can not be confirmed at this time. (link)
This new plume would arrive on the west coast around Tuesday, Sept. 24. Previous earthquakes have also generated plumes. I remember that the one that arrived after the Jan. 1, 2012 quake was really nasty.

[Image: criirad9-21-13b.gif]In a previous discussion Iodine-131 from latest criticality it was noted that the iodine spike in Chiba prefecture sludge was deposited in the period August 7 through August 20. According to CRIIRAD, Montélimar, France had spikes in alpha and beta atmospheric radiation on September 4-7. Rhône river water in Avignon showed a spike in iodine-131 on Sept. 7. The iodine cloud must have widened and dispersed quite a bit in its journey across the northern hemisphere… and 75% or more of it would have decayed by the time it reached France. So it must have been quite a substantial radioactive cloud.

Fukushima not only affects Japan, but the Pacific ocean, North America, and Europe too. Australia has had average radiation levels increase substantially, also.

The operator of Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant said on Thursday another tank holding highly contaminated water overflowed, probably sending the liquid into the Pacific Ocean, in the second such breach in less than two months.
Recent site mishaps have returned Tokyo Electric Power Co, or Tepco, to the spotlight, calling into question its ability to execute a complex cleanup that could last decades. The company has vowed to monitor the tanks more closely and improve its water management.
Amid mounting international alarm, Japan's government stepped in last month and said it would fund efforts to improvement water management at the plant.
The latest leaks show Tepco's efforts to improve its handling of the contaminated water are not sufficient, Japan's top government spokesman, Yoshihide Suga, told reporters on Thursday. The government will take steps to deal with the water, he said, adding that he thought the situation was under control.
Tepco has been relying on hastily built tanks to hold excess cooling water flushed over damaged reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi site, where three units suffered nuclear meltdowns and hydrogen explosions after a March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Tepco said the water that leaked contained 200,000 becquerels per litre of beta-emitting radioactive isotopes, including strontium 90. The legal limit for strontium 90 is 30 becquerels per litre.
The breach was discovered in a tank holding area away from where 300 tonnes of toxic water escaped in August.
About 430 litres (113 gallons) of water spilled over a period of as much as 12 hours after a worker misjudged how much could be held by the tank, which is tilting because of an uneven location, Tepco spokesman Masayuki Ono said.
The company is filling tanks to the brim as it does not have the capacity to accommodate the buildup of contaminated water, Ono said, adding that the water is likely to have flowed into a trench leading to the Pacific Ocean, about 300m (330 yards) from the tank.
It is also pumping out accumulated rainwater in tank holding areas.
After repeated denials, Tepco admitted in July that contaminated water was flowing into the Pacific Ocean from the wrecked reactor buildings at Fukushima.
Measurable radiation from water leaking from the facility is mostly confined to the harbour around the plant, officials have said, and is not an environmental threat to other countries as the radiation will be diluted by the sea.
Tepco has been pumping hundreds of tonnes of water a day over the Fukushima reactors to keep them cool and storing the radioactive wastewater in tanks above ground.
It has also found high levels of radiation just above the ground near other tanks, suggesting widespread structural problems with the tanks.

And the organizers of 2020 olympics "see no problems" with elevated radiation levels in some olympic venues.

They do see very serious problems with potential profit streams, however.

The moniker the "Hot Games" is not a desirable PR objective.

Citizens' group carries out tests at sites for key Tokyo Games facilities, but expert cautious about findings and organisers see no problem

A citizens' group in Tokyo has found elevated levels of radioactivity at sporting facilities that will be used in the 2020 Olympic Games and is warning that competitors and the hundreds of thousands of people expected to flock to the city for the event will be putting themselves in danger.
The Citizens' Group for Measuring Radioactive Environment at Facilities for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics claims wind-borne radiation from the four crippled reactors at the Fukushima nuclear plant has contaminated a number of future venues.
We found caesium-137 at almost every place we carried out tests, and there was no caesium here before the accident at Fukushima
ACTIVIST MITSUO TANAKA
Measurements were taken at 39 sporting venues that have been earmarked to stage events in seven years' time, including the Kasumigaseki Country Club, which will host the golf tournament, the Asaka shooting range and the site of the planned National Stadium, which will stage the opening and closing ceremonies and a number of other events.
The tests were also carried out at the planned site of the Olympic Village and the media centre, with the highest radiation reading - 0.484 microsieverts per hour - detected in undergrowth close to Yumenoshima Stadium, where the equestrian events will be held.
Soil samples collected at the site had 3,040 becquerels of caesium per kilogram.
Some experts point out that the context in which the tests were carried out is crucial.
"It is difficult to have this debate unless we know for sure whether this radiation is from Fukushima or whether it is naturally occurring background radiation," said Pieter Franken, founder of the Japan office of the environmental monitoring organisation Safecast.
While the readings do not pose an immediate threat to human health, members of the group say they are still significantly higher than the level of 0.23 microsieverts per hour set by the government as the standard for decontamination work going on in the exclusion zone around the nuclear plant.
"We found caesium-137 at almost every place we carried out tests, and there was no caesium here before the accident at Fukushima," Mitsuo Tanaka, a member of the group, told the South China Morning Post.
In July, the group wrote to Jacques Rogge, the then president of the International Olympic Committee, and members of its evaluation committee and urged them not to select Tokyo as the host of the 2020 Games.
Tanaka's group received a brief e-mail message to confirm that their letter had been received by the IOC - but it clearly had limited impact, as Rogge announced on September 7 that Tokyo had beaten off competition from Madrid and Istanbul for the right to host the Games.
A similar message was sent to the committee behind Tokyo's bid to host the Games, but Tanaka's group received no reply.
In response to a request from the Post, a spokesman for Toyko 2020 insisted: "Radiation levels in the air and water of Tokyo are safe.
"Measures have been taken even before the 2011 nuclear accident in Fukushima, and they show that radiation levels in Tokyo are absolutely safe and normal - comparable with levels in other major cities, like London, New York and Paris," the spokesman said.
"The Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Public Health is constantly measuring radiation levels and will continue to do so," he added.
However, the organisers' confidence has done little to reassure Tanaka.
"We believe the money spent on having the Games in Tokyo should have been spent on helping the 80,000 people who have had to leave their homes close to the Fukushima plant," he said.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.
