In 1959 the two Oswalds part ways... HARVEY is out in Sept and is gone in 2 weeks to RUSSIA, LEE is out in March and is very hard to trace....
The two 1959 photos are only taken 1 week apart yet this letter affords a clue: In 1959, Valentine Ashworth was a 29-year-old pilot affiliated with the "Cuban Raider Command" whose headquarters were in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was awarded the rank of Captain and reported to Colonel Ramon Barquin and Colonel Martin Helena. In June, Ashworth roomed with Lee Oswald in New Orleans while the two men were trying to join Cuban exile groups.[61] [61] Letter from Valentine Ashworth to Jim Garrison 7/19/67. According to Newman's Oswald and the CIA, HARVEY visits the Cuban Consulate at the beginning of Feb 1958 and is visited by a mystery man soon afterward.... soon after this HARVEY starts to receive mail and seems to have extra money... Newman claims this is Hemming who claims to have seen OSWALD at the Cuban Consulate and believe he was ONI. Graf mentioned (John D) Castle, (Raymond W) Glidden, (JamesD) King, (Abraham) Rubenstein, Goutier, Herd, Maulden, and Sawchuk."24(59-04) None of these names appear in the Marine Corps Unit Diaries or rosters for the Marine Corps Air Facility at MAGS 9 from December 22, 1958 thru September 4, 1959, because these Marines were stationed at the much larger Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS - jet base) at El Toro.
