Newman makes a good document tracing case that Phillips transferred from DRE operations to organizing the Oswald frame-up in Mexico. This case is probably better absorbed in print however Newman firms the conspiracy evidence using the mortar of CIA code and document interpretation.
At about 1hr 6 minutes - or thereabouts - Newman talks briefly about Joannides' role in overseeing all or part of the CIA's very large team in Helsinki. Does anyone have any more on this subject? What and whom was Joannides directing?
"There are three sorts of conspiracy: by the people who complain, by the people who write, by the people who take action. There is nothing to fear from the first group, the two others are more dangerous; but the police have to be part of all three,"
“The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.â€
― Leo Tolstoy,
Ok I listened to the whole presentation and I still don't know who is the guy that uses the Sforza/Tepedino/etc aliases, where he was born, and what was his birth name.
"All that is necessary for tyranny to succeed is for good men to do nothing." (unknown)
James Tracy: "There is sometimes an undue amount of paranoia among some conspiracy researchers that can contribute to flawed observations and analysis."
Gary Cornwell (Dept. Chief Counsel HSCA): "A fact merely marks the point at which we have agreed to let investigation cease."
Alan Ford: "Just because you believe it, that doesn't make it so."
Thanks for the above, RK, all of which was useful.
To approach the questions I have in mind from a different angle, is the newspaper published by the CIA in Helsinki during the WYF available anywhere on-line? What of the non-English language editions, most obviously the Spanish?
And which CIA journo - or journos - covered the Cuban delegation sponsored by the Agency? Was coverage of the Cuban contingent in the Spanish-language edition also found in the English-language one?
I ask all of the above because I want to establish if a certain CIA newspaper asset - or was he more than that? - was involved in the dissemination of DRE-serving propaganda while working in Helsinki in July-August 1962.
