The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

What I am recalling is one of the survivors talking about the phone calls Mateen was making from the club. Unfortunately, it may have been on TV, so it may never be seen again. Anyways, if anyone happens across the name Brandy or Brandi please flag it.

Before you click on that link you should realize that when McCain says "directly" he means "indirectly," i.e. as a result of his foreign policies. It's too bad, I thought we might actually catch a glimpse behind the curtain. Of course, McCain doesn't acknowledge that the Iraq War, that Obama pulled out from, was authorized by Bush under false pretenses. My opinion, this particular tragedy, not to mention the million other Iraq-related tragedies, should be laid at GWB's doorstep.

The neo-con war party pulling Bush's strings deserves the blame. Bush was the epitome of a clueless puppet, as well as the sad, alcoholic product of a powerful family.

Just saw a blurb on TV that the CDC might again be tasked to investigate the prevention of gun violence. Their previous efforts were blocked by defunding from a Republican Congress. "In a statement to ProPublica, [Representative] Kingston said he would oppose a proposal from President Obama for $10 million in CDC gun research funding. "The President's request to fund propaganda for his gun-grabbing initiatives through the CDC will not be included in the FY2015 appropriations bill," Kingston said."

If that's not politically feasible, maybe the CDC should be tasked to investigate the rise of anger-related crimes in general, and see if there isn't anything we could afford to do that will reduce the apparent general lack of civility that seems to be permeating American culture.

Well, aside from many other political and social actions and their intended or unintended consequences, Americans have long [and perhaps in recent times increasingly] followed on a personal level what they see the Nation doing, as a whole, in foreign policy through violence [wars, covert operations, government overthrows, assassinations, bombings, surgical strikes by special forces, drone strikes, torture, renditions, other violent and illegal actions]. The Nation sets an abominable and illegal/immoral example which sadly all too many follow at lower levels such as the Govt. Agencies, Military, Spooks, Private Security Entities, the Police at all levels, corporations, and individuals. We have a very sick, dysfunctional, and VIOLENT society....and a culture of violence and guns, ends-justify-means, greed-is-good, amorality that permeates it - not humane values - despite the Potemkin Village rhetoric.

The Naomi Wolf video that is excerpted in the video that Peter posted is worth revisiting, I think:

“The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.”

My feeling exactly. These days we should all work on the basis that the media aren't going to do the job and, therefore, we have to try to do it ourselves -- even with all the limitations that implies.
