Bolivia leader calls alternative climate meeting
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LA PAZ, Bolivia -- Bolivian President Evo Morales said Tuesday he's inviting activists, scientists and government officials from around the world to an alternative climate conference following the failure of a summit in Copenhagen to produce binding agreements.
The leftist leader said the April 20-22 meeting in Cochabamba will include indigenous peoples, social movements, environmentalists and scientists as well as governments "who want to work with their people."
Morales said the meeting is meant partly to pressure industrialized nations to accept that they have a "climate debt" to poor countries and will work toward an international court on environmental crimes.
Other topics will include a "universal proposal for the rights of mother earth" and the transfer of technology.
Last month's 193-nation climate summit in Copenhagen agreed on creation of a fund to help poor nations but it was vague on how the money will be raised.
Bolivia was one of five countries to block a consensus on accepting the Copenhagen Accord brokered by President Barack Obama, arguing that the deal was done in secret by a small group of countries.
Lacking agreement by all 193 countries, the document was "noted" by the conference, giving it less moral and legal weight than if it had been formally adopted.
In his speech to the assembly and in a press conference during the summit, Morales railed against capitalism and imperialism, which he said spawned the problem of climate change by ignoring the rights of nature and the rights of indigenous peoples.
He denounced industrialized countries for pledging $10 billion a year to help countries meet the challenges of climate change, while spending "trillions to fight unnecessary wars" in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, Morales called the Copenhagen summit "a triumph of the people" because "the presidents came, proposed and went without hearing, but this time they could not impose their declaration."

Thanks Keith. It is good to know there are at least some sane leaders who can think outside the square. What's that definition of insanity again? ...Doing the same thing over and and over again and still expecting different results.

I'd be happy with more 'stupid' Indians like Morales in the positions of leadership.

You like Morales for YOUR president...?... I give him to you...free of charge..!!!
He is incompetent but most of all, DELINQUENT and narcotrafikker.
Who told you "I hate indians"?.... Your habit to put people inside of your little boxes making ridiculous asummptions is pathetic. In fact, there are two indians leaders in Bolivia that I admire : René Joaquino and Victor Hugo Cárdenas. They are self-made men who has show ethical behavior all their lifes and in the carryng out of their public duties. And they are true indigenous, not "invented by the media" ones. They have lived in their native indigenous communities ( Evo Morales hasen't), they speak their mother indigenous language (Evo Morales doesen't even speak his "native" language), etc, etc.... Second Morale's name is hipocrisy.
One of them, Victor Hugo Cardenas, has suffered the assault of his home by Morales militants (MAS militia) and his family lashed, because he was oppositor and accused of the "crime" of being the former vice-president of Sanchez de Lozada first liberal government. This militia is totally controlled by Morales, but of course, the media release was that action was performed by "the community". But none of the assaultants is in jail, not even accused or prosecuted (there are videos of them) and most of the assaultants not even belong to his community, but carried from other near communities. One of the leaders of assaultants is a relative of David Choquehuanca, Bolivian chancelor.

What Morales want with these environmental meeting...?.. Media image and... money to be payed by contaminant countries, of course. "Mother earth" has never being his priority, but he blame industrial world from world contamination. He has purchased a paper factory (one of the most contaminat industries in the world) to use wild trees as primary surce (not planted trees, but wild) with no bidding (as law stablish) and no ambiental preliminary studies (as law stablish), paying more than 160 million, but is known that such factory cost much less. Corruption, of course.

Not to speak of natural park and wildlife depredation by his coca farmers (he is still president of the federation of coca farmers) leveling the jungle to plant coca crops for narcotrafic and releasing dangerous chemicals in the river waters.
But one of the most dangerous problems is the contamination of waters by heavy metals carried by other Morale's allieds, the miners unions. Jorge Aguilar, a municipal counselor, is fighting almost alone. The Morales vice-ministry of environment has sayed that "something must be done", but NOTHING has been done so far. Bolivian law say that's a major felony against environment with many years in jail. Nobody has been charged so far.

Many histories of environamental depredation is carried by Morales allieds, but environmental laws is applied as a weapon to take land and chase only Morales oppositors.
As I said, if you want him as president, I give him to you free of charge.

Right now I am hearing YOUR president latest tv speech.
He has strictly prohibited people call him "his excellence", an honorary title usually used for the president.
Reason : "after four years of government, I realize that his excellence means "is the slow" (a word game in spanish: "es-el-lento"), so is an insult . Anyway, is an honorary title used by "the colonialists", so is banned "and the one that use it will be punished".
Now that he is YOUR PRESIDENT and not mine, I suddenly begin to find him very wise and funny too. :adore:

I like that.
He's not my president but I'll give him to you anyway but he works for bankers and is probably therefore not free.

Seems that we have similar problems, then. Only the boss change.
In your case, he works for bankers. Here, he works for Chavez. And not for free, that's for $$hure.
At least in the begining, Evo was an employee of Chavez (nobody in Bolivia has ever seen more money spended in a political campaign than in the election and re-election of Morales. Very, very strange for "so poor" guyz). Now that he has Bolivia's money in his pocket and absolutly NO WAY TO CONTROL by oppositors, he barely need Chavez. But as any loyal employee, he still follows and obey.
:hahaha: I bet none of your poor bankers have the money enough to cash so many millionaire political campaigns. At least, they have to inform and justify the huge spending to their associates and directory. But Chavez...?.. But Morales...?.. who have the balls to ask them for the country's money they so generously spend...?..
