Don't take this with a grain of salt, take it with one of those 25 pound salt licks. No one else in the world seems to be repeating this story and it was published Sunday. On the other hand, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung is a fairly respectable paper (info here) and, if it weren't for how far out their the story sounds and the fact that no one else is touching it, I'd probably believe it. Consider this story an illustration of how much damage the CIA's secret prisons in Europe and 'extraordinary rendition' progam have done to the US reputation abroad -- we're now no more trustworthy than Kim Jong Il.

The American secret service, the CIA, could be responsible for
manufacturing the nearly-perfect counterfeit 50 and 100-dollar-notes that Washington pins on the terror regime of North Korea. The charge comes after an extensive investigation in Europe and Asia by the Sunday edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung of Frankfurt, and after interviews with counterfeit money experts and leading representatives of the high-security publishing industry.
The U.S.-dollar forgeries designated "Supernotes," which are so good that even specialists are unable to distinguish them from genuine notes, have circulated for almost two decades without a reliable identification of the culprits. Because of their extraordinary quality, experts assume that some country must be behind the enterprise.
The story goes on to say that North Korea lacks the technology to forge $50 and $100 bills.

Fascinating. Given that the CIA funds covert ops with drug money and gun money it is not such a stretch.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. They'd even have the ability, in my opinion, to make 'perfect forgeries' [i.e. get the real plates, paper, ink and other materials]. They helped fake so many other events [not needed to list for this crowd!], why not this to fund their ongoing ops?! :bike: That might also explain why the PTB are so glib about sending planeloads of hundreds to Iraq and such....but of course, the government has the 'right' they've appointed to the private Fed to do just about the same thing. Only we Plebs have to pay and work for our money. The Oligarchs just print it up, as and when needed. :ciao:

The SISes around the world have been involved in making counterfeit money to use against the enemy de jour's economy for as long as can be remembered. It is just a tool to use in the war against the 'enemy'. There are no national borders just class divisions. And we know that Israel and others probably, manufacture and use the passports of other states and that they are of perfect quality. Undetectable from the real thing.

Pyongyang Super Notes, sounds like a good name for a band, a football franchise or a software package.
Didn't the Islamic Revolutionaries in Iran do or get accused of the same thing? Something about the Shah having printing plates from the US for making money...
Sounds just a tad like wishful thinking to me: the Federal Reserve wants to open a branch bank in North Korea and they cook up this story to make it happen by magic.
Frankfurter Algemeine probably noticed the discrepancy between teh high quality of these counterfeits and the known printing technology in North Korea. Smelling BS, they deployed some resources and came up with nothing more than rumours about the CIA, which are probably true in any case.
