Will WikiLeaks unravel the American 'secret government'?

This Tarpley piece appears to be from late July 2010.

DPF was discussing Assange's cult background back in June 2010. See eg here:

From the publicly available information, Assange's cult background does not damn him absolutely, but is definitely relevant.

However, wikileaks is more than Assange.

As Tarpley noted, there are, of course, all those cutting-edge Chinese "dissidents" demanding the privatization of everything, no doubt to the considerable chagrin of US multinationals, who just hate to see state assets given away to, er, US multinationals.
"There are three sorts of conspiracy: by the people who complain, by the people who write, by the people who take action. There is nothing to fear from the first group, the two others are more dangerous; but the police have to be part of all three,"

Where are the unflattering assessments of David Cameron and Gordon Brown we were promised? I really do think most of the more sensitive information has been held back, censored, whatever you want to call it by the press. Everything has been really tame and as was said earlier, hardly news to anyone who understands geopolitics.

Quote:Medvedev 'playing Robin to Putin's Batman'

Posted 6 hours 57 minutes ago

Diplomats have used colourful and less than flattering language to describe some of the world's most powerful leaders, according to classified US cables exposed by WikiLeaks.

European leaders fared the worst among the cables written by various diplomats, but other key US allies did not escape harsh criticisms either.

The US's Moscow embassy referred to Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin as an "alpha-dog", while president Dmitry Medvedev - officially the more powerful of the pair - is "pale and hesitant" and "plays Robin to Putin's Batman".

US diplomats in Rome also raised concerns about the relationship between Mr Putin and Italian president Silvio Berlusconi, mentioning lavish gifts, energy contracts and a "shadowy" Russian-speaking Italian go-between.

The diplomats wrote that Mr Berlusconi "appears increasingly to be the mouthpiece of Putin" in Europe.

The Italian leader was also described as "feckless, vain and ineffective as a modern European leader" by US charge d'affaires in Rome, Elizabeth Dibble.

In another instance he was called "physically and politically weak" and his "frequent late nights and penchant for partying hard mean he does not get sufficient rest".

According to one dispatch, German chancellor Angela Merkel "avoids risk and is rarely creative", while the US embassy in Paris called French president Nicolas Sarkozy "an emperor with no clothes" who governs with a "thin-skinned and authoritarian personal style".

"Serious political criticisms" were raised about UK prime minister David Cameron and there are also claims of inappropriate behaviour while overseas by a yet unnamed member of the British Royal Family.

The leaks apparently reveal US president Barack Obama's disdain for Europe, saying he has "no feelings for Europe" and would "look East rather than West".

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il was called a "flabby old chap" who, as a result of his stroke, had suffered "physical and psychological trauma", according to diplomats who were quoting sources.

Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was compared to Hitler by US officials, while Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe was labelled "the crazy old man" by South Africa's international relations and co-operation minister.

Libyan leader Colonel Moamar Gaddafi is "just strange", wrote an adviser to the Sultan of Oman, and he is apparently accompanied everywhere by a "voluptuous blonde" Ukrainian nurse, according to a Ukranian political officer.

Afghanistan's president, Hamid Karzai, was called "an extremely weak man who did not listen to facts but was instead easily swayed by anyone who came to report even the most bizarre stories or plots against him", by US diplomats in Kabul.

Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, fared slightly better on a personal level; being described as "elegant and charming", but never keeps his promises, according to a cable from Cairo.

To those who say the fangs [thus far] have been removed, I agree. One of the best cables I've heard about so far [containing information of N. Korea missles in Iran and NK-Iran nuclear collaboration - whether true or not] has been withheld at the 'request of the Obama Administration'. I think it is too early to assess the whole situation and about Wikileaks. Remember these were Secret cables and none were Top Secret or higher classifications [of which there are many levels] - where the real dirt would lie! Also, I find these are embarrassing enough to convince me that this is not a US based operation [Wikileaks] and I do think the anger at Assange et al. is real and they are in danger. But, I could be wrong and it could be constructed to make someone like me conclude just as I have.... One thing it shows or confirms, for sure, is just as we all thought - the world is in the hands of sociopathic political fuck-ups - only varying in degree of venality, psychopathology and lack of care for anything but their own power games by country. :motz:

What I've read of the leaks so far, does very minimal damage to the US, presents nothing that couldn't be guessed at anyway and, more often than not, emphasizes the "caring world cop" position that Uncle would wish to project rather well.

Who cares if a member of the royals engaged in "inappropriate behaviour"? There are lots of prior examples of that anyway. Ditto embarrassments to current and former Crime Ministers. Who cares.

Others have noted the absence of anything Israeli in flavour. Yet anyway. How curious.

And yes, it's still too early to say for sure, but there's no more meat in it than you'd find in a bowl of veggie soup.

Others have asked and I also want to know --- are we all being played?
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

While I don't have a MAJOR problem with your analysis or other above who same something similar [and Yes, someone or someones are playing us....one way or another...and perhaps more than one way....]; I think while most of US HERE are aware of these sorts of things, this WILL come as a shock to the intelligent but naive non-Deep Politcally aware - and that may have value. Stay tuned. I sense the USG's worry is real...and that alone is worth the price of admission.

By far the best analysis and discussion of this so far is today's http://www.democracynow.org I'll put up the transcript when it is ready [few hours] but you can hear or view it now.

I'm aware of my own tendency to vacillate on some of these unfolding DP issues. I think I was maybe a little too forthright in my post above. The possibility of Zionist/Mossad control or penetration of WL is seductive. There's no doubt Mossad will try hard to use/turn WL geeks and if any are Israeli or Jewish then 'offers that cannot be refused' apply in spades - similar with others SIS's too I guess.

That said, I've been trawling through the stuff so far available from the ME embassies and they really do paint a damning picture of the Arab States as Israeli/Zionist stooges. That has me asking "is that REALLY in Israel's interests (from the perspective of their elites that is)"? - and the answer has to be 'no'. There is apparently a deafening silence about the leaks in the Arab press generally; minimal even in al Jazeera. No doubt fearful of blatant exposure of precisely that Zionist subservience and its potential to stir up popular rebellion.

I'm going to reserve judgement even though I have a major issue with the obvious commercialisation of the whole thing. There has to be serious big bucks involved across the 5 MSM outlets and we all know where that leads. I simply do not buy any alleged necessity for drip-feeding the stuff either. Get the lot out to a hundred thousand other geeks and then we'll see some REAL analysis un-fettered by UK D notices and the like.

The other thing I seem to remember is that the total number of files to be released numbers around 3 million (or "seven times" the first release of 400,000). But it looks as though the various newspapers cooperating with Wikileaks are only talking about the 250,000 diplomatic files. When are we going to hear about the remaining 2,750,000 files and what type of files are they?

I'm with you, David. Like the E. Howard Hunt "confession," there is NOTHING -- so far, and to the degree that I've been able to review what by all reasonable accounts is a tiny percentage of the newly available material -- that shocks the cognoscenti or brings us closer to truth and justice.

Peter, I'm sad to admit that I cannot share your assessment that the Great Unaware very well may be enlightened, enlivened, and even enraged by what I'm seeing as a "venting" operation.

More likely than not, false flag attacks directly linked to one or more leaked documents will be mounted. At which point the Great Unaware will rise up to support official clamp-downs on Internet content and use.

My Hunt analogy holds: These systemic "confessions" to date have benefited no one except those who stand to benefit from the imposition of restrictions on information flow.

That's my big BIG problem with Wikileaks too David. There is clearly a vast amount of sifting, filtering, vetting - whatever or however you wish the characterise it.

WikiLeaks has a FAQ on the cables The "Why not release everything now?" answer:
Quote:Are all the embassy cables being released at once?
No. Instead of publishing the documents all at once, the organisation will be releasing the embassy files in stages.
Why not release everything now?
The embassy cables will be released in stages over the next few months. The subject matter of these cables is of such importance, and the geographical spread so broad, that to do otherwise would not do this material justice.
We owe it to the people who entrusted us with the documents to ensure that there is time for them to be written about, commented on and discussed widely in public, something that is impossible if hundreds of thousands of documents are released at once. We will therefore be releasing the documents gradually over the coming weeks and months.
Doesn't cut the mustard IMHO. There's big money involved here and the whole thing is being managed with that very much an influence - and quite possibly the dominating one.

Assange may be a good techie and have lots of things to commend him, but when it comes to wheeler dealing and the trade-offs/accommodations required by the sort of people he will now be involved with - he's an innocent abroad at best.

Releasing it all at once to the world and his dog may not have had the sort of impact we are seeing; but in my opinion, over the long haul it would have had a far superior one. All that's worthy of attention would have been ferreted out just as effectively - and probably a lot more so - than will happen through his new-found friends - and likely SIS controlled paymasters
