Will WikiLeaks unravel the American 'secret government'?
#61
It was just released that early next year Wikileaks will be leaking inside informtion of wrongdoing of a MAJOR Bank or Banks!...should be fun :top: Meanwhile some in Congress are calling for Wikileaks to be declared a Foreign Terrorist Organization - allowing its individuals to be captured without due process; held in prison forever, tortured and more..... We are such a democratic and benevolent nation!

Zbigniew Brzezinski: Who is Really Leaking to Wikileaks?

Zbigniew Brzezinski doesn't think all the leaked information coming out of Wikileaks is a result of Army PFC Bradley Manning, as a matter of fact he suspects a foreign intelligence service may be providing the more embarrassing leaks. In a PBS interview with Judy Woodruff, ZB lays out his thinking:
JUDY WOODRUFF: Dr. Brzezinski, what do you think the fallout is going to be?

ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI, former adviser, U.S. National Security: ...

The real issue is, who is feeding Wikipedia on this issue -- Wiki -- Wiki -- WikiLeaks on this issue? They're getting a lot of information which seems trivial, inconsequential, but some of it seems surprisingly pointed.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Well, what are you referring to?

ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI: Well, for example, there are references to a report by our officials that some Chinese leaders favor a reunified Korea under South Korea.

This is clearly designed to embarrass the Chinese and our relationship with them. The very pointed references to Arab leaders could have as their objective undermining their political credibility at home, because this kind of public identification of their hostility towards Iran could actually play against them at home...

JUDY WOODRUFF: And what is it -- what are you worried about with regard to the knowledge that...

ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI: It's not a question of worry. It's, rather, a question of whether WikiLeaks are being manipulated by interested parties that want to either complicate our relationship with other governments or want to undermine some governments, because some of these items that are being emphasized and have surfaced are very pointed.

And I wonder whether, in fact, there aren't some operations internationally, intelligence services, that are feeding stuff to WikiLeaks, because it is a unique opportunity to embarrass us, to embarrass our position, but also to undermine our relations with particular governments.

For example, leaving aside the personal gossip about Sarkozy or Berlusconi or Putin, the business about the Turks is clearly calculated in terms of its potential impact on disrupting the American-Turkish relationship.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Just criticizing the people around...

ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI: And the top leaders, Erdogan and Davutoglu and so forth, are using some really, really, very sharp language.

JUDY WOODRUFF: But this is 250 -- it's a quarter-of-a-million documents.

ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI: Precisely.

JUDY WOODRUFF: How easy would it be to seed this to make sure that it was slanted a certain way?

ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI: Seeding -- seeding it is very easy.

I have no doubt that WikiLeaks is getting a lot of the stuff from sort of relatively unimportant sources, like the one that perhaps is identified on the air. But it may be getting stuff at the same time from interested intelligence parties who want to manipulate the process and achieve certain very specific objectives.
It should be noted that while ZB suspects foreign elements behind some of the leaks, it could very well be internal U.S. elements unhappy with the direction the President is taking things. Wikileaks may have both domestic and foreign sources. There could very well be more than one playing this game.

This year the Israeli-Turkish relationship seems somewhat disrupted...

Mr. Assange is now being hunted down by INTERPOL which was obviously triggered by the news that the next release was going to be against the corrupt drug-money laundering banking cartels.

He is a dead man, book it Dan-O...you can embarass the feckless and incompetent disaster that is Barack Obama, the petty, vindictive, recalcitrant and embittered Hillary Rodham-Clinton and the abject contempt that the swine who run this country from the figurehead/actor perspective but Goddamn it, taking on the corrupt moneychangers is an act of war.

These banks as of today are all so thoroughly corrupt, so thoroughly insolvent and so deeply steeped in criminality that they make BCCI and Nugan Hand look like a sixth grader's sidewalk lemonade stand by comparison.

The only thing that could be more damaging to this rotten to the core system than exposing the moneychangers would be exposing the biggest lie of all that is 9/11.

There is nothing that this filthy and rotten Empire of Fear and Greed needs to keep secret than the big banks complicity in market rigging, global fraud and the illegal narcotics trade that supports their systems of control.

The banksters can't possibly risk their fraud being exposed, not that the rats who run the political system and their police state will do a damned thing but arrest and put on show trials some lesser offenders but if it all is outed...and done right then the mobs will be building guillotines at the foot of Wall Street.

Let it bleed....

Just my two cents

Ed, I think you're correct, IF Wikileaks has anything of import on a or several banks!!! He'd be a marked man.....likely found with bricks in his pockets hanging under a bridge [or Polonium poisoning; locked naked in a North Face bag; or a thousand other equally bad fates] - of course it will duely be labeled a suicide..... One can only hope they don't wait too long or the 'insurance' file contains that material - or better! Mr. Assange and the other few heads of Wikileaks had best watch carefully who they take for lovers, what they eat and most of all where they are. Few countries would really offer legal protection - fewer still from a rendition team - none from a determined hit team.

Interesting.

Wikileaks website is down. Suggestions are that China is responsible. But who really knows.

This link is still open and they are getting many attacks, but they also have many servers all over the world and mirrors and supposedly some very clever hacker-types working for them. This is really turning into a 'drama'! :bebored:  :hmmmm:

I really don't have a good fix on who is leaking to Wikileaks. Most seem to feel it is one major source. I doubt it. They also have lots of things they haven't yet released that have nothing to do with ones they have....leading me to think they have had and have multiple sources....there could be quite a mix of nations, intel agencies, individual whistleblowers - all with different 'agendas'. I do, however, fear for Assange's safety, and at the very least his being able to stay out of one of our secret prisons if things don't change - and I see few with power standing up for letting the sun shine in!

[quote]These megaleaks, as you call them, we haven’t seen any of those from the private sector.

No, not at the same scale as for the military.

Will we?

Yes. We have one related to a bank coming up, that’s a megaleak. It’s not as big a scale as the Iraq material, but it’s either tens or hundreds of thousands of documents depending on how you define it.

Is it a U.S. bank?

Yes, it’s a U.S. bank.

One that still exists?

Yes, a big U.S. bank.

The biggest U.S. bank?

When will it happen?

Early next year. I won’t say more.

What do you want to be the result of this release?

[Pauses] I’m not sure.

It will give a true and representative insight into how banks behave at the executive level in a way that will stimulate investigations and reforms, I presume.

Usually when you get leaks at this level, it’s about one particular case or one particular violation. For this, there’s only one similar example. It’s like the Enron emails. Why were these so valuable? When Enron collapsed, through court processes, thousands and thousands of emails came out that were internal, and it provided a window into how the whole company was managed. It was all the little decisions that supported the flagrant violations.

This will be like that. Yes, there will be some flagrant violations, unethical practices that will be revealed, but it will also be all the supporting decision-making structures and the internal executive ethos that cames out, and that’s tremendously valuable. Like the Iraq War Logs, yes there were mass casualty incidents that were very newsworthy, but the great value is seeing the full spectrum of the war.

You could call it the ecosystem of corruption. But it’s also all the regular decision making that turns a blind eye to and supports unethical practices: the oversight that’s not done, the priorities of executives, how they think they’re fulfilling their own self-interest. The way they talk about it.

How many dollars were at stake in this?

We’re still investigating. All I can say is it’s clear there were unethical practices, but it’s too early to suggest there’s criminality. We have to be careful about applying criminal labels to people until we’re very sure.

Can you tell me anything about what kind of unethical behavior we’re talking about?

No.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange Wants To Spill Your Corporate Secrets
Nov. 29 2010 - 5:04 pm | 407,964 views | 6 recommendations | 43 comments
By ANDY GREENBERG - FORBES

In a rare interview, Assange tells Forbes that the release of Pentagon and State Department documents are just the beginning. His next target: big business.

Early next year, Julian Assange says, a major American bank will suddenly find itself turned inside out. Tens of thousands of its internal documents will be exposed on Wikileaks.org with no polite requests for executives’ response or other forewarnings. The data dump will lay bare the finance firm’s secrets on the Web for every customer, every competitor, every regulator to examine and pass judgment on.

(For the full transcript of Forbes’ interview with Assange click here.)

When? Which bank? What documents? Cagey as always, Assange won’t say, so his claim is impossible to verify. But he has always followed through on his threats. Sitting for a rare interview in a London garden flat on a rainy November day, he compares what he is ready to unleash to the damning e-mails that poured out of the Enron trial: a comprehensive vivisection of corporate bad behavior. “You could call it the ecosystem of corruption,” he says, refusing to characterize the coming release in more detail. “But it’s also all the regular decision making that turns a blind eye to and supports unethical practices: the oversight that’s not done, the priorities of executives, how they think they’re fulfilling their own self-interest.”

This is Assange: a moral ideologue, a champion of openness, a control freak. He pauses to think—a process that occasionally puts our conversation on hold for awkwardly long interludes. The slim 39-year-old Wiki*Leaks founder wears a navy suit over his 6-foot-2 frame, and his once shaggy white hair, recently dyed brown, has been cropped to a sandy patchwork of blonde and tan. He says he colors it when he’s “being tracked.”

“These big-package releases. There should be a cute name for them,” he says, then pauses again.

“Megaleaks?” I suggest, trying to move things along.

“Yes, that’s good—megaleaks.” His voice is a hoarse, Aussie-tinged baritone. As a teenage hacker in Melbourne its pitch helped him impersonate IT staff to trick companies’ employees into revealing their passwords over the phone, and today it’s deeper still after a recent bout of flu. “These megaleaks . . . they’re an important phenomenon. And they’re only going to increase.”

He’ll see to that. By the time you’re reading this another giant dump of classified U.S. documents may well be public. Assange refused to discuss the leak at the time FORBES went to press, but he claims it is part of a series that will have the greatest impact of any WikiLeaks release yet. Assange calls the shots: choosing the media outlets that splash his exposés, holding them to a strict embargo, running the leaks simultaneously on his site. Past megaleaks from his information insurgency over the last year have included 76,000 secret Afghan war documents and another trove of 392,000 files from the Iraq war. Those data explosions, the largest classified military security breaches in history, have roused antiwar activists and enraged the Pentagon.

Admire Assange or revile him, he is the prophet of a coming age of involuntary transparency. Having exposed military misconduct on a grand scale, he is now gunning for corporate America. Does Assange have unpublished, damaging documents on pharmaceutical companies? Yes, he says. Finance? Yes, many more than the single bank scandal we’ve been discussing. Energy? Plenty, on everything from BP to an Albanian oil firm that he says attempted to sabotage its competitors’ wells. Like informational IEDs, these damaging revelations can be detonated at will.
