Perhaps it is time for the Telegraph to issue a retraction to its kneejerk publication in which it automatically cast blame on Islamists and other "eastern" terrorists-by-default. Because according to just released info, they could not have been more wrong, and it is the reaction to precisely this type of prejudice that will never facilitate bridging frayed relations between disparate cultures. Anyway, so much for prejudiced speculation and/or lies about some Islamist organization taking the blame for the events in Norway today. Here is the truth:" VG has received confirmation from several independent sources that it was Anders Behring Breivik, who was arrested by armed police after the mass killings of Utøya Friday.

VG was also present when the emergency squad took action against the flat 32-year-old susceptible west of Oslo.

Several foreign media have also named Breivik as the perpetrator." More on his motives: "A childhood friend of Breivik says to VG Nett that he should have been right-wing in the late 20's, and posted a series of controversial opinions on Facebook." And the kicker, for all the bigots out there: he was an ultra nationalist who hated Islam. Today's tragic events were merely the outburst of deranged and very much troubled Loughner, McVey-like psychophath. And nothing more.

In online debates he makes his mark as a well-read, and one with strong opinions about Norwegian politics. He promotes a very conservative opinions, which he also called nationalist. He expresses himself strongly opposed to multiculturalism - that cultural differences can live together in a community.

He has had many posts on the site Document.no, an Islam-critical site that publishes news and commentary.

In one of the posts he states that politics today no longer revolves around socialism against capitalism, but that the fight is between nationalism and internationalism. He expressed clear support for the nationalist mindset.

He also commented on the Swedish news articles, where he makes it clear that he believes the media have failed by not being "NOK" Islam-critical.

There is more in the full article here but the gist is clear: this is a case where blaming Islamist or Jihadist jingoism is about as far from the truth as possible.

WOW, 87 dead or more for a nation of 4.5 million is gigantic loss. More so that their murder rate is about the lowest in the world - along with other forms of physical violence! Norway also has no death penalty, and while I agree with that, on some special occasions, such as this, when it is beyond murder - to the point of a one-person war crime, the most I believe he could get would be life in their very nice prison system. They don't even, to my knowledge, have specially designed cells to punish a person for especially heinous crimes. While by definition he is likely to be declared mentally incompetent, I don't think he is. He knew right from wrong from what I can see and chose wrong by a few thousand km. This will change the country in Europe I always liked the best, for many reasons. My heart goes out to Norge. I have been trying to move there of late, as the last sane bastion left in this disintegrating world. While this doesn't change my mind, it does sadden me deeply. The perpetrator is from Oslo. There is still some though he may have not done it alone. 87 are confirmed dead and that is expected to rise. More than 100 are in hospital and some of them will not recover. This is mind blowing. One has to know how small Oslo is, how small and peaceful Norge is to fully understand the immensity of this horror. My Norwegian friends are speechless - these are things that happen to other countries. That most of the dead were young teenagers at a political camp for the Labor Party is really horrible. I'd guess that fully one third of all of the country would know fairly closely the family of the victims, if not the victims themselves.

Public broadcaster NRK and several other Norwegian media identified the suspected attacker as Anders Behring Breivik, a blond and blue-eyed Norwegian who expressed right-wing and anti-Muslim views on the Internet.

Norwegian news agency NTB said Breivik legally owned several firearms and belonged to a gun club. He ran an agricultural firm growing vegetables, an enterprise that could have helped him secure large amounts of fertilizer, a potential ingredient in bombs.

But he didn't belong to any known factions in Norway's small and splintered extreme right movement, and had no criminal record except for some minor offenses, the police official told AP.

Just some thoughts. While one man with a farm could gather all the fertilizer needed for such a series [likely 2-3] bombs, it is almost impossible for one man to mix all that and build the timers, plant the vehicles, get away and then [in police uniform] kill 80 -100 youth. It just takes more people and more support. As a declared hater of Muslims and supporter of the Far Right, he kiled not one Muslim, only Norwegians and even the political youth camp [Labor Party] is so middle-left as to be insignificant even to any sane Right-Winger. Something here doesn't fit. Yet. He has a Right-Wing Christian Fundamentalist orientation, but has not been [apparently] in more trouble with the law in Norge other than parking and driving offenses, to date. He has never been arrested for anything. Strangely, he surrendered without a fight or resisting. His close friends would be my main object of investigation!~

For the first time since the War, there are now Norwegian military in the center of Oslo.

The death toll is now 91 and expected to exceed 100.

I just heard from a Norwegian friend that a second man has been arrested. Another Norwegian with blond hair, that was dyed black. He smiled when arrested, but said nothing. I suspect there will be others.

There are reports today that a second person might have been involved in the shooting on the Norwegian island of Utøya that saw more than 80 people killed.

At least one witness has told the media that gunfire was coming from two different directions and that they saw two shooters. However, those reports have to be treated cautiously. In the chaos of Utøya, it would not be hard for confusion to reign.

However, Norwegian police are believed to have made a second arrest in the past few hours.

Meanwhile, a Norwegian company has confirmed that Anders Behring Breivik ordered four tons of fertilizer back in May. The company says that this was entirely in line with Brevik being the owner of an organic farming company, and it's still not clear whether the fertilizer was used in the bomb that was detonated in the centre of Oslo on Friday afternoon.

The massacre in Norway was the work of a man with extreme right wing views who hated Muslims, police said this morning.

Officers found a series of raving internet posts by 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik, who was been charged with two accounts of terrorism after gunning down children on the island of Utoya and detonating a bomb in Oslo yesterday.

Media reports in Norway described Breivik as a 'loner', who lived with his mother in a wealthy suburb of west Oslo, was well-educated and enjoyed hunting.
Only a few days ago he set up a Twitter account and posted a single message: 'One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100,000 who have only interests'.
It is attributed to the English philosopher John Stuart Mill, whose concept of liberty justified the freedom of the individual in opposition to unlimited state control.

The account appears to have only been set up a few days ago.

On his Facebook profile, Breivik describes himself as a Christian and a conservative.

It also listed interests such as body-building and freemasonry.

Breivik is believed to have grown up in Oslo, and studied at the Oslo School of Management.
He later appears to have moved out of the city and established Breivik Geofarm, a company believed to be an organic farm.

It specialised in melons and root vegetables. There is speculation among the media in Norway that this may have allowed him easy access to fertiliser, an ingredient used in bomb-making.
Along with the farm, he also appears to own a flat in Oslo. Breivik had no military background except for ordinary national service and no criminal record.
It is thought that the 32-year-old is a former member of Labour's opposition youth party, Fremskrittspartiet.
According the website Atlantic.com, Breivik expressed extremist Islamophobic views on forums and criticised immigration policies.
He argued on a Swedish news website that the media were not critical enough about Islam and claimed that Geert Wilders' Party for Freedom in the Netherlands was the only 'true' party of conservatives.
He argued that socialism was breaking down traditions, culture, national identity and other societal structures and that this in turn made society weak and confused.
He claimed to admire the Norwegian Second World War hero Max Manus, a highly decorated sailor who was an expert in sinking Nazi ships.
Breivik's Facebook profile listed his favourite books as The Trial by Franz Kafka and Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell.
His favourite TV show was named as Dexter - a series about a Miami police forensics expert who moonlights as a serial killer of criminals whom he believes have escaped justice.

Police officer Roger Andresen said today: 'He is clear on the point that he wants to explain himself.'
Andersen said the suspect posted on websites with Christian fundamentalist tendencies. He did not describe the websites in any more details.
National police chief Sveinung Sponheim told public broadcaster NRK that the suspected gunman's Internet postings 'suggest that he has some political traits directed toward the right, and anti-Muslim views, but if that was a motivation for the actual act remains to be seen'.

Six foot tall and blond Breivik is reported to have arrived on the island of Utoya dressed as a policeman and opened fire after beckoning several young people over in his native Norwegian tongue.
Reports suggest he was also seen loitering around the site of the bomb blast in Oslo two hours before the island incident.
Police said later that the suspect had right-wing and anti-Muslim views, but the motive for the attacks was unclear.
The Norwegian daily Verdens Gang quoted a friend as saying he became a rightwing extremist in his late 20s. It said he expressed strong nationalistic views in online debates and had been a strong opponent of the idea that people of different cultural backgrounds can live alongside each other.
An official said the gunman used both automatic weapons and handguns, and that there was at least one unexploded device at the youth camp that a police bomb disposal team and military experts were working on disarming.
Some 91 are believed to have been killed - seven in Oslo and 84 on Utoya Island, 50 miles north of the capital.
Initially it was not known what were the motives of the gunman and architect of the car bomb - whether they or the single person had been radicalised and was part of a militant Muslim group waging Jihad or was trying to further a home-grown political cause.
But it now appears Breivik was behind both attacks, a fact that it took police hours to realise as the mayhem ensued.
