Call me old-fashioned, but I sort of liked it when they at least gave lip service in the USA to a presumption of innocence and one had to PROVE that someone was guilty. [i.e. Using evidence, law, witnesses, etc.] Blagojevich was impeached without any evidence nor witnesses being reviewed or presented, no defense allowed. Nice show trial with not only the presumption of guilt, but devination of same....:eviltongue: They all took the word of the FBI - who we all know is beyond reproach, nearly angelic and has never lied, set anyone up nor railroaded anyone for political or deep political reasons! All it takes in America today to convict or remove a progressive is a whispering campaign of innuendo. The FBI claims to have tapes of conversations damning to him, but NOT one State Senator nor House member heard it! Of course, the standard for someone on the right is quite the opposite - so much for Justice in the United Snakes. Disgusting!:banghead:
Washington (PTI): Rod Blagojevich, the Illinois Governor, who faced charges of selling the Senate seat vacated by the U.S. President Barack Obama, was impeached and voted out of power by the Illinois State Senate.
The vote on Thursday was unanimous and there was no vote in his favour. State Lt. Governor Pat Quinn, Blagojevich's one time political rival, takes over as the new Governor of the State.
Blagojevich was elected twice as the State Governor.
The Illinois House had earlier voted 114-1 against Blagojevich, who was arrested on the same charges by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was later released on bail.
Blagojevich, who earlier had boycotted the impeachment proceedings terming it as unfair trail and compared this with his hanging, on Thursday appeared before the State Senate in his defence. He insisted that he has done nothing wrong.
