Iran 'Directed' Washington, D.C., Terror Plot, U.S. Says
#1
abcnews.go.com/Blotter/us-iran-tied-terror-plot-washington-dc-disrupted/story?id=14711933

FBI and DEA agents have disrupted a plot to commit a "significant terrorist act in the United States" tied to Iran, federal officials told ABC News today.

The officials said the plot included the assassination of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, Adel Al-Jubeir, with a bomb and subsequent bomb attacks on the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington, D.C. Bombings of the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, were also discussed, according to the U.S. officials.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in an announcement today that the plan was "conceived, sponsored and was directed from Iran" by a faction of the government and called it a "flagrant" violation of U.S. and international law.
"The U.S. is committed to holding Iran accountable for its actions," Holder said. He said the White House will be meeting with federal agencies before announcing "further action" in regards to Iran.
FBI Director Robert Mueller said the arrest of a suspect in the plot shows the U.S. will "bring the full weight of [the] law to bear on those responsible" and that "any attempts on American soil will not be tolerated."

The stunning allegations come against a backdrop of longstanding tensions between Iran and the United States and Saudi Arabia. In the last year, Saudi Arabia has attempted to build an anti-Iran alliance to push back against perceived aggression by Iran in the region.
An Iranian representative in Washington, D.C., told ABC News the U.S. government's story was "fake" but declined to provide any other information.
The State Department has listed Iran as a "state sponsor" of terror since 1984. Officials in Argentina have said Iran was behind an attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992.

Alleged Terror Plotter Claims He Was 'Directed By High-Ranking' Iranian Officials
The new case, called Operation Red Coalition, began in May when an Iranian-American from Corpus Christi, Texas, approached a DEA informant seeking the help of a Mexican drug cartel to assassinate the Saudi ambassador, according to counter-terrorism officials.
The Iranian-American thought he was dealing with a member of the feared Zetas Mexican drug organization, according to agents.

The DEA office in Houston brought in FBI agents as the international terror implications of the case became apparent.
The Iranian-American, identified by federal officials as Manssor Arbabsiar, 56, reportedly claimed he was being "directed by high-ranking members of the Iranian government," including a cousin who was "a member of the Iranian army but did not wear a uniform," according to a person briefed on the details of the case. Counter-terrorism officials said they believe the cousin may be part of the special operations unit of the Revolutionary Guard, the Quds force.
Arbabsiar and a second man, Gohlam Shakuri, an Iranian official, were named in a five-count criminal complaint filed Tuesday afternoon in federal court in New York. They were charged with conspiracy to kill a foreign official and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction, a bomb, among other counts. Shakuri is still at large in Iran, Holder said.
The complaint also refers to another Iranian official but does not name him.
U.S. officials said Arbabsiar met twice in July with the DEA informant in the northern Mexico city of Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas, and negotiated a $1.5 million payment for the assassination of the Saudi ambassador. As a down payment, officials said Arbabsiar wired two payments of $49,960 on Aug. 1 and Aug. 9 to an FBI undercover bank account after he had returned to Iran.

Federal agents said the DEA and the FBI recorded a number of meetings and phone calls between the informant and Arbabsiar, some of them from Iran.

Officials said Arbabsiar flew from Iran through Frankfurt, Germany, to Mexico City Sept. 29 for a final planning session, but was refused entry to Mexico and put on a plane to New York, where he was arrested.
Arbabsiar, a naturalized U.S. citizen, expressed "utter disregard for collateral damage" in the planned bomb attacks in Washington, according to officials.
He also reportedly told the undercover DEA informant that his contacts in the Iranian government could provide "tons of opium" for the Mexican cartels, according to officials who have reviewed the case file.
Officials said Arbabsiar is now cooperating with prosecutors and federal agents in New York, where the case has been transferred.
"Though it reads like the pages of a Hollywood script, the impact would've been very real and many lives would've been lost," Mueller said of the foiled plot.
A spokesperson at the Saudi embassy in Washington, D.C., said she was unaware of the alleged plot.

BREAKING! IRANIAN PLOT STORY IS FROM LAST JUNE!!!!!!!

Officials said that the Saudi ambassador, Adel Al-Jubeir, was never in danger. President Barack Obama was briefed in June about the alleged plot.
If this all happened last June, then announcing it today is clearly a desperate and pathetic attempt to distract the media from the economy, the wars, OccupyWallStreet, Fast And Furious, etc. etc. etc. etc.

Plots and distractions

Quick thoughts on the alleged Iranian assassination plot:
  1. Motive? What possible reason would Iran have to do this? What possible good could it do them?
  2. Holder is in desperate, desperate need of a distraction.
  3. So is Bibi, if he lets out hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. 'Iran talk' is the default Israeli smoke screen. Panetta just came back from telling Bibi he was on his own if he wants to attack Iran - the Jews saw Obama's UN speech and assumed they could get him to do anything, so they needed to be set straight - and I imagine the consolation prize for the Jewish billionaire donors is more harassment of Iran, necessitating some sort of reason.
  4. New York City? What could possibly be going on in New York City that we need not pay attention to? "Criminal charges will be brought in the Southern District of New York because a downpayment of $100,000 was wired through a bank located in the Southern District of New York, officials say."
  5. This time the government agent provocateur without whom there would have been no plot was a DEA agent.
  6. "We will not let other countries use our soil as their battleground." He really said that?

Iranian mullah-narco terror plot to kill Saudi ambassador with cartel hitman and Mexico-laundered cash is so obviously ripped from Breaking Bad

This alleged Iranian terror plot the FBI reported today is really quite something. It reads like any one of the 419 scams in my spam folder meets an episode of 24 or Breaking Bad meets yellowcake and the run-up to the Iraq war. Is this real life, or some Bay of Pigs pre-election-year hallucination?
Folks, stop and think.
Setting aside the long track record of lies by the US and Israeli governments, just ask yourself these questions.
1. Why would Iran want to assassinate the Saudi ambassador? Iran and Saudi Arabia are friends. Ambassadors are not decision makers. They are glorified messengers and in these days of instant global communications no longer enjoy the autonomous plenipotentiary powers they did in the days of sailing ships. There is no reason to kill an ambassador because another one representing the same exact government policies would arrive the very next day.
2. Why would Iran involve Mexican drug cartels? Drug cartels are great at smuggling and slicing up competition and informants with chain saws, but are not known for skills at diplomatic assassination.
3. Why do such a pointless killing inside the United States, knowing the US is looking for any excuse at all to launch a war?
People, the US and Israel are in a panic. OccupyAMERICA is growing and the corporate media are unable to get a handle with which to ridicule and dismiss it. In desperation the plan is to launch a major war with Iran which will mean war with Russia, then use that resulting World War to demand the American people forget all about Wall Street's mortgage-backed security fraud, all about the ruined economy, all about the other wars, all about the lies, salute the flag, and throw our money and our children onto the bayonets of Israel's enemies on command.
Because that's what worked the last two times.
And the only people who can stop this are YOU.
I need all of you to drop what you are doing and call your local TV station, your local newspapers, your congresscritters and tell them in no uncertain terms that you know this Iranian plot is total bullshit and you refuse to fight any more wares to save Israel or to save Wall Street. Then call all your friends and family and ask them to do the same. Do it now. Tomorrow may be too late. To delay is to lose.
If we do not choose to fight against these money-junkies now, we will soon have no choice but to fight for the money-junkies from now on!
If they get this war they want launched, none of us will ever live to see a time of peace again.
Is that the world you want to leave to your children?
Get angry. Make noise. Be heard. Be seen.
Be an American! Do the right thing!

If my memory serves me well I don't recall the US being this hysterical when Israel assassinated a Palestinian leader in Dubai....This too was an international act of terrorism and involving other countries by using their passports for Israeli assassins.

Biden: 'Nothing Off the Table' After Iran D.C. Terror Plot 12 Oct 2011 Vice President Joe Biden said today that "nothing has been taken off the table" when it comes to the U.S. response to an alleged plot by Iran to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the U.S. and unleash deadly terrorist bombings in Washington, D.C. "It is an outrageous act that the Iranians are going to have to be held accountable," Biden told ABC News' "Good Morning America". "This is really over the top."

U.S. aims to "unite the world" against Iran 12 Oct 2011 The Obama administration plans to leverage charges that Iran plotted to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States into a new global campaign to isolate the Islamic republic. "It's critically important that we unite the world in the isolation of and dealing with the Iranians," Vice President Joe Biden said on "The Early Show" Wednesday. U.S. officials say the administration will lobby for the imposition of new international sanctions as well as for individual nations to expand their own penalties against Iran based on allegations that Iranian agents tried to recruit a purported member of a Mexican drug cartel to kill the Saudi envoy on American soil.

Iran summons Swiss envoy 12 Oct 2011 Iran's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Swiss envoy to protest US allegations of Tehran's involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington. During the meeting, the head of the North America Bureau of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iran has been among the main victims of terrorist activities of terrorist groups sponsored by the United States. "Iran, therefore, condemns the baseless claims made by the US government... and warns against the repetition of such politically motivated allegations," a Foreign Ministry statement said on Wednesday.
