Blair wins $1m leadership prize
Former prime minister Tony Blair has won $1m (£697,000) for his leadership on the world stage.

Mr Blair, now a Middle East envoy, will receive the Dan David Prize at Tel Aviv University in Israel in May.

It marks his "foresight", "exceptional intelligence" and "steadfast determination" to end conflicts.

Mr Blair's spokesman said the money would be donated to the former Labour leader's recently set up charity for religious understanding.

'Morally courageous'

Mr Blair, prime minister from 1997 to 2007, is an envoy of the international Quartet (the US, EU, UN and Russia) on the Middle East peace process.

His entry as a Dan David laureate on the prize's website hails him as "one of the most outstanding statesmen of our era".

It praises his role in the Northern Ireland peace process and his "steadfast determination and morally courageous leadership" over Kosovo.

There is no mention of the decision to support the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The prize's citation states: "Early in his prime ministership, he came to two beliefs that guide him to today: first, that it is a mistake for the world to wait for America to solve all of the tough questions, and second, that there are some things a state may do within its borders that justify intervention even if the actions do not directly threaten another nation's interests."

A condition of the award is that 10% of the prize money is used to fund graduate students in the winner's field.

Mr Blair's spokesman confirmed that the rest of the money would be donated to the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.

Three Dan David prizes are awarded every year, in "past, present and future" categories.

Mr Blair has won the present award, which last year went to environmental campaigner and former US vice-president Al Gore.

Earlier this month the former prime minister was welcomed as a "very good friend" by US President Barack Obama, as he gave a speech at the traditional National Prayer Breakfast.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

Of all the 6.500.000.000 people on Earth, certainly he was most deserving - for a job 'well-done' for his masters.

Do you think this guy really buys this BS about himself? If I'd done a fraction of the things he has done I would never want to show my face in public again. The best thing he could do for the world is disappear up his own aperture but he keeps getting paraded around everywhere doing what I have no idea and it just brings back night mares for most people I know. Vomit bag indeed Peter. And nicely said Jan. I bet somewhere there are photos of him in a compromising position with a child or a goat or something. There can be no explanation for any further damage to the world wrought by this excuse of a man.

I mean really 'Morally courageous'? Tony Poppins? Lap dog of the Bush crime family? "foresight" Are we talking about the same person, Tony Blair?
"one of the most outstanding statesmen of our era"

I did not realise it was legal to run such courses. War crimes 101 and post grad studies in how to invade, destroy and obliterate a country, people and cutlture 1,000's of miles away that never did a thing to you. Well, I'll be damned, a whole new world of study opportunities awaits.

That would be the Nation Prey Breakfast run by the little fascist group called the Family in Jeff Sharlett's book of same name.

Yup!, He's in the 'honored statesmen' club of Kissinger, Bush, Clinton, and a select other War Criminals....those people who really do something good for the World get left under the tank treads, forgotten, ignored or villified.....and these ****s get lauded by like-minded people in power. Would be funny, were it not so sad and not REAL life!

I seem to remember that we covered this possibility awhile back and that there did seem to be something that compromised him, but being an old codger I can't remember where it was posted.

My best guess is that the pure Obama is also compromised somehow because my sense of victorious politicians is that they are only chosen if they can be suitably manipulated.

That, I believe was the drift - albeit conjecture.
