Excellent paper here full of insight by Marko Hajdinjak. It details how "smuggling operations" were (and probally still are) controlled in close cooperation with state apparatus, the politicians, security services and organised crime structures.

It has many pages and it's possible the link could dissapear at anytime...hopefully one of the admins can preserve it some how?
