A good way to judge Oswald is that any non-agent would have had more friends and more places to go to seek safety. Oswald was without those things because he existed in the artificial world of a CIA operative. He was too isolated and too removed. This personal profile gap allowed Intel to frame him effectively with no one to protest. Not even his Intel wife. His main contacts all possessed the ability to make him instantly expendable. That right there tells you who and what he was.
