According to my fiancé, who is a news buff, this story also received major airtime on CNN and Fox, at least for one day. I personally am simply dumbfounded that a US president wouldn't (at least publicly) call the Saudis' bluff (whether or not they privately supported passage of the legislation). It makes me wonder if the Saudis' threat is simply a sheepskin for a real underlying threat, i.e. Nixon and "that Bay of Pigs thing."
I am also astounded that this story isn't still simmering on the front burner of MSM discourse. I mean, you got your 9/11 victims, you got greedy sheiks, you got 28 still-classified pages of 9/11 Commission Report (btw there was a "60 Minutes" segment on this topic last week), you got heroic judges ready to vindicate the American system of justice, etc... Looks like a perfect opportunity to jettison a junior partner in the 9/11 attacks (assuming they were a junior partner) and have a built in reason to ignore whatever evidence the Saudis' might produce of other parties' willing participation.
