There are several reasons why in scientific terms the rise is not arithmatic but exponential, generally. The more ice that melts, the less sunlight gets reflected - so more ice melts and faster. Secondly, as more greenhouse gasses get into the atmosphere they warm the air which warms the oceans - which both work to melt more ice in glaciers and polar pack ice. Third, increased heat energy in the air and water make for more vigorous movement and storms, which further increase the rate the melt of ice. While many generally poor areas such as Bangladesh are almost entirely just a few meters above current sea level, the rise will in the century also make places like NYC and London uninhabitable - the rich will have no problems, as they have the money to re-locate [or already have multiple houses in the mountains and elsewhere], but for the poor - as always - the burden will prove too much to bear, along with average summer temperatures too hot to bear and violent storms all year - in many places extreme drought. The USA which has 4% of World population but contributes about 23% of greenhouse gasses has just pulled out of the only agreement to do something about this - and removed or muzzled most of the climate scientists in the EPA, as well as stopped funding for any in academia.
Another unknown, but suspected from historical research in geology and ice cores, is that a tipping point may be reached - such a tipping point will produce a very rapid increase in temperatures and sea level rise due to known mechanisms - only unknown it the point at which such tipping point [or points] kick in.
