A very useful article.
I had some conversations with a fellow who said the FBI could resurrect the original, defaced serial numbers ground off weapons used by CIA as untraceable.
The method was an acid treatment to show the molecular outline by the original stamping.
Ritchson indicates CE399 does NOT match CE139 in lands and grooves. A major deal-killer.
Ritchson also notes Craig Roberts' anecdote by Hathcock:
And, yes, Epstein got it wrong in saying the fateful Carcano of killer-of-fascists Lee Henry Oswald was found in the infamous Snipers Nest.
It was found in the Book Carton Hide on the way to the Sniper's Private Elevator--
There's horsepoop and then there's horsepower; Epstein the former, Ritchson, the latter.

Quote:
(It should be noted at this point that Carlos Norman (Gunny) Hathock II who was at the time, chief instructor of the U.S. Marine Corps Sniper's School at Quantico, Virginia, conducted a series of tests using the best Carcanos he could acquire and the best shooters in the world and also failed to duplicate LHO's alleged shooting feat.)
