Oh I don't think it was a warning shot across the bow Dawn. The bullet was inches away from killing Flynt. Same scenario with George Wallace, who was targeted because he hurt Nixon's chances of reelection by spitting the wingnut vote.

The goal was to neutralize. If they're dead or scared silent then they're neutralized.
