Jan Klimkowski Wrote:David et al - an important question.
I view and use "Gladio" in a very smilar way to that in which I use "MK-ULTRA".
MK-ULTRA is the visible, limited hangout, tip of decades of deep black research into, loosely, controlling human behaviour. When I say MK-ULTRA, I usually mean to reference all such covert "mind" research.
Similarly, it can be argued that Gladio technically only refers to the Italian portion of the "anti-communist stay behind armies", although it is commonly used to refer to the entire European stay behind operation.
It is arguable that the original intent of "Gladio" in its broadest sense, namely an anti-communist stay behind guerilla force, with access to secret arms caches, designed to fight a partisan war against Red Army invasion, was soon coopted by the intelligence and power elites (eg SMOM and Propaganda Due). In other words, Gladio was transformed into something more valuable to the geopoliticians who sponsored it.
The real halllmarks of Gladio are the Strategy of Tension, and the perpetrating of false flag atrorcities, such as the Bologna railway station bombing, by Gladio cells (in this case, the neo-fascist Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari) with the intention of blaming the atrocity on the left (in this case, falsely attributing it to the Red Brigades).
Such a false flag attack designed to create political instability and fear amongst the citizenry is the real hallmark of Gladio.
Returning to the historical origins of the operation, I suspect that C20th Europe's geography and history, and division of the continent by an Iron Curtain, made the philosophical case for "an anti-communist stay behind guerilla force with access to secret arms caches" easy to argue and justify in intelligence circles. However, no such case could be made in the US - unless the argument was that the Red Army would invade Alaska.....
So, I doubt that there is an American "Gladio" in the sense of a "stay behind anti-communist guerilla" per se.
But I strongly suspect that there are intelligence-created cells of "soldiers", with access to arms and bombs, who operate under the "Gladio" philosophy of using false flag attacks as part of a geopolitical Strategy of Tension.
Of course any such cells would be known to a very few, and be (im)plausibly deniable.
I think you captured the essence of the answer, Jan. As the 'Heimat' the principle and more 'public' [if secret] reasons [to fight the Ruskies if they invaded] was not needed, as 1] every red-blooded American is armed to the teeth [and other organs] and would fight to the last; but more importantly 2] we had the nukes and even 'doomsday' nukes - which even if all the government was decapitated or incapacitated and even if all communications by launch code et al were disabled, a launch both to destroy the USSR, other countries, EVEN THE HOMELAND to destroy the 'enemy' was designed into the system - and still is!

So, only the ancillary functions of 'Gladio' in the generic and general sense were necessary to be set-up in the ol US of A. And they are those groups who pull off false-flag provocations and set-up would be REAL patriots, etc. Some are in small cells after training, sleeping and awaiting activation; some are in big institutions, such as the FBI, HS, FEMA; some are in quasi-temporary off the shelf ops, like Iran-Contra [and SO Many Others] and Ollie's REX-84 plans...now renamed and under [I'd guess] HS and/or FEMA. And others like that. I'll bet we have more of these per person than any nation on Earth. :wirlitzer: :jawdrop: Eat your fascist hearts out Europe!
