The Side Mounted Scope on the 6.5 mm Carcano
#10
Hi Tom

Could you explain what exactly you are saying in #4?

"4. In looking at the parabolic calculation, remember the shots were elevation down and should be considered."

I agree the iron sights could have been used with the side mounted scope in place although, in my experience with doing this, it is an extremely awkward and uncomfortable practice; not something I would be trying with rapid fire shooting at moving targets.

If Oswald practiced as much as WC supporters claim he did, he would quickly have become aware, as you did, of the gross inadequacies of this toy rifle scope. Do you not think he would have simply removed the scope before taking the rifle to the TSBD, in order to make using the iron sights easier? Would you have considered this option? Removing the scope would have been as easy as re-assembling a Carcano short rifle with a dime.

P.S. You may not lose sight of your target while extracting a casing and re-chambering the next round but, you certainly cannot see your rear or front sight with the bolt handle in the vertical position.

Mr. HILL. The right rear portion of his head was missing. It was lying in the rear seat of the car. His brain was exposed. There was blood and bits of brain all over the entire rear portion of the car. Mrs. Kennedy was completely covered with blood. There was so much blood you could not tell if there had been any other wound or not, except for the one large gaping wound in the right rear portion of the head.
