A lot of things have. I'd be interested in how Mellen covers it.
As far as I know, this book is still a long way off. I don't see it yet listed as a book soon to be published - but I will be in contact with Joan soon and ask. That said, I know she will never say that LBJ was a or the mastermind. She believes the CIA and other 'core elements of power' (such as JCOS/military/MI, and other power groupings) in the USA were behind it. LBJ was but one of many beneficiaries, and may have [my own take] gotten wind of it slightly before the event. Hoover knew of it quite a ways before - and Hoover was fairly friendly with LBJ, but he could have learned of the plot from his good-old Texas buddies too. It may have been essential for him to be in the know [at least generally, if not the details] by the Dallas trip.
The issues at hand in this thread do not essentially alter the facts about LBJ's role. He was not the mastermind any more than the Mafia were....these are red herrings tossed out by the cover-up or, in some cases championed by those who have blinders on about the totality of the evidence, and without a working knowledge of deep political events.
