Thanks for that link. The Freedom From Religion Foundation promote a rational world view and that is a good way to go. The US government (and others) has been busy trying to promote religious thinking for years to keep people uneducated and distracted from the real world here and now. Instead of promoting secular education they funded and printed books for the madrases in Pakistan and other regions. With in the US itself there has been much funding of private schools many of which are religious and also welfare and employment agencies which are church based. I believe the same thing is happening in other western nations. The churches are getting richer and having more say in policy. Science research is underfunded and New Earth Creationism is taken seriously by people who should know better. Which isn't to say there are not progressive sections or people in any religion but the media and the purse strings and the power and the voice seem to be on the reactionary side. Religious institutions lend themselves to the protection of criminals and pedophiles. They are closed institutions and authoritarian, feudal and heirarchial in structure They are threatened by rational inquiry or thought by their members or others and prefer to hide behind obscurantism and dogma and magical thinking. Children don't stand a chance. Nor, would I say do most adults.
