A group of physicists have made a quantum computer whose benefits could far exceed those of classical computers.

The research results of four independent groups that were published in the journal Science shows the great step towards this 'supercomputer' that has long been a primary goal for scientists. Experts say that a computer could perform tasks such unaffordable for a traditional computer, such as deciphering the codes that protect bank transactions or calculate the pattern of behavior of hundreds of millions of living cells in the body. The apparatus consists of a waveguide made of glass repeatedly cross each other on a microchip. The photons enter through single side of the device and detected at the exit on the other side. The place in which the photons will depend on their interaction in the overlapping areas.

This optical device is a quantum computer makes calculations through interaction of photons. Its main flaw is that at the moment can only perform one task, calculating a mathematical problem, but according to the authors of scientific research, the most important thing is to show the possibilities of the computer. The key difference between
computers and conventional quantum is that they can perform a number of calculations simultaneously, not sequentially, vastly expanding its possibilities.
