Question: Was Anton LaVey's Satanic Church a manifestation of San Francisco's free-thinking social environment which spawned North Beach Beats in the 50's, Haight St. hippies in the 60's, and Mission district punk rocks '76-'86? OR Sinister elite psy-op? As subjects of "deep" analysis I find both LaVey and Charles Manson amusingly over-rated.

Hi Cliff, have you read the Sinister Forces trilogy?

"He would, wouldn't he?" Mandy Rice-Davies. When asked in court whether she knew that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her. “I think it would be a good idea” Ghandi, when asked about Western Civilisation.

I can't name one thing Charles Manson was good at other than an ability to talk the pants off of troubled young women. We're supposed to believe he was some kind of evil mastermind? (If you buy that one I have an orange bridge in town for sale...) He was an inept car thief, one truly stupid drug dealer, and a mediocre musician and song-writer. He wasn't much for actually killing a person, since he wasn't present for any of the Tate-LaBianca murders. I think the whole thing was Susan Atkins' idea once she had the thrill of tagging Political Piggy with Gary Hinman's blood. Bugliosi promoted all of that "Helter Skelter" bullshit right out of Atkins' LA Times article published 5 days after she was charged with murder. Coming on the heels of Altamont it was a target of opportunity for the mainstream media to proclaim the "End of the 60's." As far as Anton LaVey goes, I must in full disclosure say that I am a passing acquaintance of his eldest daughter Karla LaVey. She's a friend of an old friend of mine, and what I know about Satanism I got from talking about it with my old friend. I've never discussed Satanism with Karla LaVey, but from what I've heard of her family I just don't see the Unspeakable.

Good. btw...What was Anton LaVey's idea of the perfect satanic song? "How Much for the Doggie in the Window" Me, I have a faith in a higher power which precludes me from being a Satanist. I follow a spiritual practice of my own making, which has no text and no name and no followers other than myself. Anyone who thinks "satanism" is about devil worship has fallen prey to hicks, I fear.
