I've never been able to quite make sense of those two "attempts" against Ford in September 1975. Were they just warning Ford? It's not like he was going off the reservation or anything. Within a couple of months, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Scowcroft would practically take over the administration.
A forgotten assassination attempt: 7/6/1974 Ford spoke at the Dallas World Trade Center. He made no reference to an incident involving his motorcade; a shattered police window in a patrol car led to police reports - later reversed - that a sniper had fired on the motorcade as it moved from the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to the downtown area. (The Breaking of a President, Marvin Miller p401) "FORD IN DALLAS Vice President Gerald Ford is shown at press conference in the World Trade Center Building in Dallas Tex Saturday The Vice President is here to dedicate the new facility. Texas Department of Safety said the windshield of a patrol car in the Vice President's motorcade had a window shattered by sniper fire but they later said the window was damaged by heat expansion."
