I see what you are all saying, but I think if anyone had plans to replace Obama, they would have done it before halfway through his second (and last) term. Although I guess the underlying message would be "don't let your guard down, even in your second term"......

It's a commonly stated concept that 2nd term Presidents have a freer hand, as they don't have to worry about getting reelected. An incident late in a second term might encourage future Presidents not to think that they were free to make their own decisions no matter how long they had left in Office.
