It doesn't really matter. The Carcano was a poorly-machined mass produced rifle designed to arm Italy quickly for WWII. You won't find any specific single rifle that is gas-tight when fired.
It also doesn't matter if the current rifle was switched. It should be confiscated, examined for manipulation to make it gas-tight or any other adjustments, and test-fired. Same difference. Americans forget, we have every right to do that by our original government contract of the United States Constitution. If the rifle doesn't fit you must acquit. |
