Couple of days to read the voice recordings; I wonder what's on the MH17 data recorder.

We're not being told. In fact, the US had satellites over Ukraine at the time and haven't released a single bit of evidence. It's really shocking. But not surprising.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge. Carl Jung - Aion (1951). Insurers will not pay claims [any] if they can prove that the crash/deaths were a willful act that LH/Germanwings could have or should have prevented. The airline is looking to be in deep financial trouble suddenly. They'll survive, but take a BIG hit.

The guy was a marathon runner so I'm guessing his illness wasn't physical.
Signs of mental problems is similar to Mark David Chapman and his mental hiccups prior to assassinating Lennon.

"Prosecutors say there was no evidence of a political or religious motive for his actions and no suicide note has been found."
But had had "an illness."
What kind of illness would compel you to deliberately crash a plane load of passengers in the Alps? Nothing about this is believable.

Well, IF that scenario is true, an illness that would lead him to forever loose the ability to fly in any airline might do that to some. I can think of many illnesses that would have him loose his 'dream' of being a pilot forever. Granted it is an extreme reaction even to that, but not outside of the realm of possibility. It could have destroyed him psychologically - loosing his dream - and/or drugs he was taking for the condition could have exacerbated some mental state leading to what happened - as extreme as it was.
As I understand it, despite all the information and hints given, German law doesn't allow us to be told what illness they think he had. Strange. If he were alive, I might understand that...but.... [though surely someone will leak it to a source outside of Germany, eventually]
There are other possible scenarios, but so far the authorities are on one track only. Time will tell.

I am open-minded about the various possibilities but the depression/illness scenarios strike me as highly unlikely.
As you say though, time will tell.
A few nuggets I found via Abel Danger. Make of them what you will:

Hmmmm.
Quote:Spokesman for the investigative team of Germanwings Airbus crash stated that information about written evidence being found during searches, published by British tabloids, is not true.
BERLIN (Sputnik) German police rejected media claims on Friday that they had found evidence proving that the co-pilot of the crashed Germanwings plane had planned his suicide. "Information about written evidence being found during searches, published today by British tabloids, is not true," a spokesman for the investigative team told reporters.
The spokesman added that the police had gathered evidence in the home of the co-pilot, which will be further investigated, though refrained from providing further details.
The Airbus A320 of Lufthansa's low-cost airline Germanwings crashed in the French Alps on Tuesday. There were 150 people on board the plane, including 6 crew and 144 passengers. There are no survivors. On Thursday, a French prosecutor asserted that according to data from the aircraft's first black box, the captain left the cockpit to visit the toilet, and the co-pilot then locked the captain out.
The co-pilot is said to have showed no signs of panic and is deemed to have been conscious while he was alone in the cockpit. The prosecutor said that the passengers were unaware of the situation on board until the very last minute.
Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr said later on Thursday the company believed the plane crash was deliberate. He added that Germanwings pilots did not undergo regular psychological evaluations and only took a psychological test during training.

It makes you wonder why the British press ran with that story. I also don't think he committed suicide. I seem to remember from an earlier post that his breathing was even throughout, according to the recording from the black box. I really doubt this would be the case if he were contemplating suicide. But if it wasn't suicide or planned then why lock the pilot out? Why slowly loose height and ram straight into the mountainside?
The whole event is truly strange.

Using only what information has been leaked or presented - the 'official' case now is that he had a non-psychological condition that a doctor felt, by law, prevented him from flying [that day of the flight and likely (my take) for a long time or forever, perhaps. This, along with some psychological depression or other psychological factors made him go 'strange'. I'm not saying that is the actual series of events - but that is what they [German/French officials] are saying even if they are not stating it in that manner. There has already been LOTS of totally incorrect stories that sold a lot of yellow press. VERY unusual is the early official [and unofficial leaked] information. Usually, one has to wait a long time until there is a least a preliminary conclusion from both flight recorders, radar data, in this case the interceptors that were close enough to see inside the cockpit, satellite and ATC data, health records, people who knew him, forensic data on the plane, etc. et al. It could be more sinister, but I think the airlines are wanting a quick conclusion to prevent general flight from flights and flying. [many of the relatives that came to see where their loved ones died, came by bus - not by plane!]
