The Position of the Catholic Church in the Class War.
#1
The Catholic Archbishop of Caracas sent a confidential email to the wrong email address. He sent a follow up email to the a fore mentioned wrong addressee who received the email saying that it was an administrative error and to not let the email fall into malicious hands. I received it in my in box recently and I will share it with you now. Please do not allow this email to fall into malicious hands. Send only to good friends. Both the original email and the follow up explanation of the 'administrative error' email were sent on 24th August 2009. Aparently in response to the introduction of new universal educational laws by Chavez government.
Google translation here (original below)

Quote:First email:
The state has to ensure education is not their role but managed and controlled. This function must take a civil institution as the Catholic Church which has the support and credibility of everyone in the country.

The Catholic Church does not assume this role on a whim or for a profit. Education does not generate profits, and that's fine, because we do not want a social service a source of material wealth. It is then, as they insist the enemies of Christ, to strive to accumulate wealth, but, having committed Christian, we are obliged, by order, to carry the message of Jesus redeeming the heart of Venezuela, of all Venezuelans .

We do not want to dedicate to the education of the privileged, leaving the less fortunate in the hands of an atheist and communist rule.

I think the church should assume the education of both groups, the only way to ensure social peace and development. Educating and training in the love of God to all Venezuelans, it is our mission, but pretend to do it the messy way that preach some brothers, well-meaning but short-sighted, counterproductive.

Education should be equal but separate (a sentence unpopular, but very true). The children of wealthy families, called to go to college and, later, take control of businesses, the professions and exercise occupy the highest positions of government, must be educated to meet these goals and take their social responsibility in the most responsible and Christian. Children who, by their socioeconomic background, have disadvantages, should be educated in the respect for authority, in the diligence, modesty and, above all in the Christian message of love.

The Catholic Church should oppose any attempt to standardize basic education, because this will only lead us into chaos and war between brothers. Children from the poorest strata will want access to the same positions as their more fortunate peers, creating discontent and envy feeding. The upper strata of lost motivation to study and succeed. With a one size fits all education, which will create a nation of conformists and envious.

With the blessing of Almighty God, we must be willing to serve Jesus the Redeemer, the Church and Venezuela.

Jorge Urosa Sabino, Archbishop of Caracas

Pathetic - but revealing.

Assuming speculatively that the email is correct, it reveals precisely why liberation theology took root in South and Central America.

The following passage is almost too explicit to be true:

Quote:Education should be equal but separate (a sentence unpopular, but very true). The children of wealthy families, called to go to college and, later, take control of businesses, the professions and exercise occupy the highest positions of government, must be educated to meet these goals and take their social responsibility in the most responsible and Christian. Except that the Catholic Church has never believed in education.

The goal of the Catholic Church has always been indoctrination.

Organized religion (is there any other kind?) is simply politics by other means -- the world's oldest profession.

So it's the life eternal you'll be wantin', is it?

Then do as I say, bucko!

Yes.

Plus the desire for Power and Control over earthly flesh can take rather extreme positions (and I'm not talking about priestly paedophilia):

Quote:Arnaud Amalric, or Arnau Amalric, (died 1225) was a Cistercian monk remembered for giving advice during the Albigensian Crusade to a soldier wondering how to distinguish the Catholic friendlies from the Cathar enemies to just "Kill them all. For the Lord knows them that are His."

Before Brando and Coppola stopped the filming in the jungle and wrote the Kurtz scenes as we now know them, there was a John Milius-inspired Apocalypse Now script:

Quote:245 INT. HEADQUARTERS - NIGHT

Willard stands there, holding the morphine needle in his
hand.

KURTZ
Look into the jungle. You can't --
it's too terrible. You have to
smear yourself with warpaint to
look at it -- you have to be a
cannibal.
(whispered)
That's why warpaint was invented.
Then it becomes your jungle.

Willard shoots himself in the arm with the morphine.

WILLARD
How did we get here?

KURTZ
Because of all the things we do,
the thing we do best -- is lie.

WILLARD
I think think a lie stinks.

KURTZ
Oh Captain, that is so true.

WILLARD
Stinks. I could never figure --
(he drinks from
the canteen)
I could never figure how they
can teach boys how to bomb villages
with napalm -- and not let them
write the word 'fuck' on their
airplanes.

Willard drinks more of the LSD water.

KURTZ
(angrily)
You could never figure it because
it doesn't make sense.

WILLARD
Fuck no.

KURTZ
I'll tell you what makes sense !
Air strikes ! White Phosphorus !
Napalm ! We'll bomb the shit out
of them if they don't do what
we want.

WILLARD
We'll exterminate the fuckers !

Chef steps into the Headquarters -- he is terrified.
He draws his bayonet.

CHEF
Captain -- kill him.

KURTZ
Think of it -- for years, millions
of years, savages with pathetic
painted faces were scared shitless
that fire would rain down from
the sky. And goddamn, we made
it happen. God bless Dow !

CHEF
Kill him !

Chef rushes at Kurtz with his bayonet -- instinctively,
Willard GUNS him -- then there is additional automatic
FIRE. Chef is being riddled by bullets.

246 VIEW ON LANCE

He has let loose with his M-16 at Chef, like some sort
of mindless, programmed killer.

LANCE
(FIRING)
Hot damn !

Then hes tops -- Chef falls to the dirt -- there is an
instant of silence, then:

247 EXT. OF THE TEMPLE AT NU MUNG BA - NIGHT

The DOORS begin LIGHT MY FIRE , loud and overwhelming,
as illuminating flares light up the blackness.

Naturally, the priest denies he is the author of the email but then he would wouldn't he?

The role of the church and children, both their minds, souls and bodies has always been problematic.

A very broad church it is containing both the church of Jorge Urosa Sabino along side those of liberation theology and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
